Super Bowl odds, spread, line: Chiefs open as favorite to win Super Bowl 54 over 49ers

The early Super Bowl 54 odds indicate an even matchup between Chiefs and 49ers. Betonline.ag listed the Chiefs as a 1 1/2-point favorite on the strength of their AFC title game victory over the Titans, even though the 49ers put on a similarly dominant display against the Packers.

Because the game is considered almost a pick 'em, there is also little difference in the moneylines; early straight-up bettors would need to wager $125 to win $100 on the Chiefs, while 49ers backers could get even money (plus-105) on their side. Separately, oddsmakers are showing respect for the respective offenses led by Patrick Mahomes and Jimmy Garoppolo. Betonline's over/under opened at 53, which would put both teams' scores in the mid-20s with the point spread close to zero.

I think they were 9-7 the second time they beat the Patriots; maybe 10-6 when they ruined the Patriots’ perfect season. a few years before.

I know plenty of Mets/Jets fans, and they are just masochists...supposedly the Mets won two World Series, I only remember one in the 1980s :p

I lost interest in baseball early, like 14.

Never quite sure why as I had love it until that point.

I haven’t followed any sports in many years; if I’m in a group with any game on I know few of the players. Both football and baseball were fun to play in the schoolyards, and the rock-hard gum in the baseball card packs, as well as the gum shredded to mimic chewing tobacco (Big League Chew?) I’ll remember forever.

I honestly haven’t watched a complete football game since the last Super Bowl the Giants won; it really requires a lot of free time to follow these things.

Did you not see the sarcasm tag?

IF you do not talk silly once in awhile, what is the point of talking at all?

Jimmy G should be on the Pats. Bill wanted to keep him and trade Brady. He got overruled by Mr. Kraft. Now, Brady will walk and we got will get nothing for him. Jimmy is a fine quarterback. However, any QB could have been in his position yesterday and done just fine.

SF has the best defense in the NFL. Just like Baltimore did when Flacco won. TBay won with a QB nobody remembers. Denver won with the best defense, a great running game and Peyton Manning playing just OK. Pittsburgh won because they had a great defense a good running game.

The Chiefs are currently favored by 1 1/2 points. I would bet on SF.

Anybody with insight on the line v. line battle? The Niners have been absolutely mauling teams on both lines of scrimmage.

It's going to be interesting. The 49ers running game is very powerful, and the Chiefs defense is horrible against the run.

You mean like holding Henry to 69 yards?

Tom Brady went to two Super Bowls and won one of them after trading Jimmy G. The Patriots got 20 years of winning with Tom Brady. He owes them nothing more.

Don’t get me wrong, I truly hope that Tom returns to the Patriots so that we can win two more Super Bowls.

The unbiased statistics of their scoring against mutual opponents indicates this should be a close game:

There will be world class BBQ at the KC tailgate parties. I remember one Monday Night Football game where smoke from tailgaters filled the stadium like fog.

the Chiefs defense is horrible against the run.

It's been improving week over week.

The Chief's defense has come such a long way since early this season it's pretty astounding.

Two things that have hurt the Chiefs recently are either big mistakes and penalties, but especially over the last 2 games, the Offense has been explosive enough to more than make up for them.

“KC’s defense is the question for me. “

KC has a defense?

26TH AGAINST THE RUN. 20TH AGAINST THE PASS.

“If the Chiefs can give Patrick Mahomes time to throw”

Against the 2nd defense in the league and the best pass rush.

All healthy.

And without a credible rushing threat from KC, the 9ers will tee off on every play.

Last night against GB they blitzed ONLY ONCE. Other than that it was a 3 or 4 man rush.

When they blitz, look out.

“EIGHT passes the whole game.”

There is not a team in the entire history of football that would trade 450yds of passing for 285yds running.

Why pass when you can dominate with the running game?

SF passes only when necessary. Which is not often.

But when they do, it’s very effective. Just ask Drew Brees.

“You mean like holding Henry to 69 yards? “

No.

Like finishing the season 26th of 32 in the league against the run.

KC has been successful by taking the run out of the play calling of the opposition by LEADING most of the game. And they STILL finished 26th.

They’ll have a much, much tougher time of it against the 9ers.

Rodgers will be curled up with his babe, Danica, the dogs and his State Farm agent watching every wave as it rolls in off the veranda of his newly purchased mansion.
