DONEGAL TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A man who appeared in an episode of the TV show “American Pickers” was charged with burglary.
Police said Ronald Heist, 69, of Summit Township, broke into a Donegal Township, Butler County barn in 2017. It had been turned into a studio.
Investigators said Heist, also known as “the Mole Man” according to court papers, stole $650,000 worth of items.

I’ve bought and sold automobilia for 40 years and the prices they claim are so unrealistic it’s laughable.
Heck, the prices they pay for stuff is high retail in many cases.
It was reported they receive $100,000 per show so they can buy high and sell at a loss.
Is that in real dollars or Mike and Frank overblown picker dollars?

Proof that people really believe what they see on TV. Very sad. One of the first things I taught my son, and keep repeating, is that EVERYTHING you see on TV is fake in one way or another!

Out of a barn/studio? If it doesn't have 4 wheels and an engine I'm kind of skeptical of that number. But, I would be open to argument.
This has nothing to do with the show. He appeared on the show in its first season. How many years ago was that?
I’ve done my share of work on cars in the past, though I am struggling with getting my Toyota smog-approved at the moment, I don’t have the shop and generally I do not have the inclination to work on old cars. Yes, my smog conundrum boosts my interest in pre-smog cars. Some. I suppose if I could just write a check and end up with a neat old pickup truck for a few grand, I’d be OK with that.
But the idea of the guys you see on TV buying a full out rusted out wreck for $2K and restoring it at the cost of $25K in engine rebuild and glass and chrome and tires and 800 frickin hours of gritty work is completely unappealing.

Watch that show for a week and you’ll be convinced that rural America has been totally overrun by hoarders.
I appreciate a restoration as much as anyone but it’s too rich for my blood.
Getting the jalopy jeeps and blazer to acceptable running and cosmetic is enough.
I hope to pickup a used but most likely good 304 this weekend. I can’t argue with the price. Free.
