SETI@home is shutting down. In an announcement posted yesterday, the project stated that they will no longer send data to SETI@home clients starting on March 31st, 2020 as they have reached a "point of diminishing returns" and have analyzed all the data that they need.

On a more fun note, The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy is 42 this year! The number, of course, correspondents to the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe and everything – as well as the number of times this ‘mostly harmless’ planet has circled its small unregarded yellow sun in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the Western Spiral arm of the galaxy since Douglas Adams’ sci-fi comedy was first broadcast on Radio 4 in March 1978.

Coincidence ? I think not

We all know the REAL reason they’re shutting down... they found what they were looking for. ;-)

I did SETI for a while. At one point, I was in the 1% club with a Celeron 400. That must have been around 1999.

As Ken Ham says, if they want to look for non-random coded sequences, they don’t need a telescope, they need a microscope.

Telescope-microscope...
Aren’t they both looking at the same thing?

An okay to kill time and for some people to have a hobby, but nothing was going to come of it anyway. Nothing out there to talk to/with. As I said, fun diversion as a past time for some, tho.

I did 600ish WU’s on classic before they moved over to BOINC. Went over and ran Folding@Home for a long, long time after that across multiple CPU’s.

There was a story about that. I think the title was ‘Spiral Staircase to the Stars’

I thought it was the most advanced thing on my PC back then.

Honestly I dont know why this concept stopped. Maybe privacy concerns? Last thing we need are our PCs being used as a crowd computer for China.
