Neumünster Zoo in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, has drawn up a slaughter list of its animals as part of its coronavirus emergency plan.
Yes, we do have a list of animals that we would have to slaughter first, said Verena Kaspari, director of Neumünster Zoo, confirming initial reports in German media. The animals on the list would be fed to the zoos lynx, eagles and Germanys biggest polar bear Vitus, who is 3.6 meters (over 11 ft) tall.
Goats and deer are on the slaughter list but none of the endangered animals, Kaspari explained. Its a worst-case scenario, we dont see it getting that way yet, but we have to think of it early enough.
A worst-case scenario would be if the delivery of fish and meat was no longer possible, because of a shortage of funds.
All zoos across Germany are closed as part of government measures to slow the spread of the coronavirus. The measures forced Neumünster Zoo to close on March 15.
Neumünster Zoo is a small zoo with over 700 animals including arctic foxes, maned wolves and seals, as well as Vitus. If the zoo is allowed to reopen at the end of April if restrictions are relaxed then Kaspari estimates it will have lost 175,000 ($191,000) in ticket sales and donations.

Eagles? Really?
"Animals could be bread und slaughtered."
Just saw Germany is opening April 20.

Read, Eagles would be fed other non endangered animals.
Busch Garden’s fake Germany may be closed while real Germany is open. Weird...
Oh! They meant at the zoo! sorry .
Being a good portion of my blood German,Germany nevertheless always never fails to make me stop and say,”WTF!”
Given the well known German love of animals over people, shouldn’t the Zoo be asking for donations to tide them over? Better yet, feed the islamofascists to the polar bears...
Top of the list should be zoo director, Kaspari. As if she can’t think outside the box. Give up her paycheck. Give up the paychecks of everyone on the board. Or have everyone on the board go fishing in the huge lake 6 miles away. The zoo was closed exact one month ago, so obviously didn’t stock up much on food for the animals. It is a charity zoo so have a funds drive. Every heard of asking the locals? Every heard of the internet and gofundme type sites?
My first trip to the store to prep for CV back in January was for pet food. What was this zoo doing in January to prep for their animals?
If Germany opens in 5 days, what’s the problem?
Maybe tattoo the animal with a tracking number, for efficiency. O, and good practice to inecenerate the corpses to prevent the spread.
