Cindy Sheehan: Hugo Chavez's Legacy Will Continue to Inspire
teleSUR ^ | March 5, 2016 | Cindy Sheehan

Three years ago today, I wept for my friend Chavez and myself, for the people of Venezuela and the world.

In 2006, shortly after my first peace camp in Crawford, Texas to confront the person who I felt murdered my son Casey: George Bush, I was invited to Caracas, Venezuela to attend the World Social Forum.

Amazingly, at the time I really had no idea that the World Social Forum was about socialism, and I really didn't know much more about President Hugo Chavez other than that he was a very vocal opponent of my opponents: George Bush and the U.S. Empire. That trip to Caracas was a whirlwind of speeches, meetings, and rallies.

At one point during the forum, I was pulled out of a meeting to go to the presidential palace, Miraflores, to meet with President Chavez. He gave a few of us a tour of some of the places where the U.S./C.I.A.-backed coup attempt occurred in April 2002 and a viewing of "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised," where our guide served as the "star" of the show. Chavez not only survived that coup attempt, because of his people, but also thrived as the socialist/anti-imperialist president of Venezuela for 14 years before his untimely passing.

That year in Caracas, I stumbled through my meetings and obligations, just knowing enough to survive the trip. However, after that trip to Venezuela, I was "greeted" with deep-seated hostility when I returned to "El Imperio," even from people whom I would consider on "the left."(continued)

Shortages and street thugs. Great inspiration.

Chavez legacy will live on, indeed

He is probably remembered by every Venezuelan who has learned to live without toilet paper

I typed "Venezuela st" into Google, and before I got any further, the suggestion was "venezuela store shelves". I would hope that would continue to inspire freedom. Sadly, I know better. Leftists will continue to assume that socialism will work better under Obama or under Bernie than it worked under every petty tyrant before them.

Those who stand in line to vote for socialist free stuff now will always stand in line to wait for that free stuff (cooking oil, toilet paper, and bread, if they are lucky) later.

Oprah's viewers will finally solve their weight problem - when there is no food to eat.

I suspect a TBI or a brain tumor. This woman is certifiable.

Is there something inspiring about standing in line to buy toilet paper that I don’t know about?

I am asking a serious question here.

I really want to know!

Is it me? Am I defective somehow?

For me, toilet paper is critical. I grew up using the old
Sears & Roebuck catalog pages in the great old outhouse my
dad constructed at home & the unbleached stuff on rolls they
had at school. - Now, I can have all the Charmin to use I
want and two or three indoor bathrooms to use it in.

Sheenan’s fifteen minutes of notoriety are up; but she seems
unaware they’re up.

I used to cut her some slack because of the unimaginable pain and anguish of losing a son.

But now Cindy really needs some help.

She’s an idiot. Let her spend a week in the glorious, inspired Venezuela waiting on long lines to buy rationed food and supplies. Chavez and his big stump protege Maduro have ruined Venezuela and she still sings their praises. Lieberals are truly spiritually and mentally ill.

I grew up using the old Sears & Roebuck catalog pages in the great old outhouse

My mother told me those stories.

By the time I came around the Wish Book had glossy pages and I can’t imagine it being useful for wiping.

I did use the outhouse a few times growing up but it had a toilet roll hanging on a wire by then.

Waiting for that plopping sound stays with you through the years.

That is one thing a person probably can still hear in many parts of Venezuela.

I don’t think it will be a big tourist draw.

“Come to Venezuela and relive the worst part of the 1930s” just doesn’t work for me.

Hugo turned a good country into a socialistic state of depression. Cindy is nuts, but we’ve known that for some time.

The thing is, in her mind (and all other socialists) the problems wouldn't be Chavez's fault. Socialism's failures are never socialism's fault. It would be capitalists, conservatives, Christians, anybody that doesn't have a socialist worldview.
