US Ambassador Nikki Haley has called for international action to address the crisis in Venezuela, after a US-backed proposal for regional mediation failed to win support at the Organization of American States. (The US-backed proposal failed to overcome opposition from the 14 similar national jurisdictions that benefit from turmoil and discounted Venezuelan oil.) "The tragic situation in Venezuela calls out for action. The Venezuelan people are starving while their government tramples their democracy".

The Judiciary has sold out and military command is wavering as the country, pummeled by the plunge in oil prices and the Hugo Chávez, legacy of rampant corruption has left a crippling shortages of food, medicine and other basic essentials. Running street battles at anti-Maduro protests in the capitol, have left 74 people dead since April.

Supreme Court said that "because the National Assembly continued to defy previous court rulings, all of the assembly’s actions were deemed invalid."

Complete kayos cannot be far behind.

Whenever the usual suspects start wailing about “somebody! do something!” they mean the US must handle it.

And then, of course, it will be their (the wailers) own duty to undermine, undercut, impede, interfere with, back stab and demean anything the US does in answer to their wails.

Venezuela’s situation is obviously the work of greedy, exploitative capitalist pigs. I was told that with socialism, everyone would be happy to have their daily ration from the government while they sit on their asses and be free-spirited artists and musicians.

Venezuela is where they are at because they ‘wanted’ a socialist nation....they got exactly what they voted for.

Not our problem....they need to handle their own affairs now and undo what they begin. I have little empathy.

We are not keeper of the whole world. The only thing that Venezuela does with us is sell us oil.

If we expand the Alaskan fields, build the pipeline from Canada, and start to use out own oil, their problem would have nothing to do with us. We have been getting to involved with other country’s problems and trying to fix it by throwing money at it.

Cut them off, and make them figure it out themselves.

I don’t know what Haley is expecting here. If it means more tax dollars or “aid” which always go to the dictator and his thugs then count me out. Maybe she should ask Danny Glover and Sean Penn to be special envoys.

I read that there are a million refugees who have fled, 90 percent of them to nearby Colombia.

Let the UN do their thing.....drop off food...... Other than that the people should continue to protest their governance and get the Military to stand with them. Then the situation will change. Otherwise they’re stuck with what they asked for.

You’re so absolutely correct. Whatever we do, there will be a giant cluster of insiders who work to rip off whatever we do.

I know and socialize (heh, weird word) with a family of Venezuelans who were able to escape with the assistance of my brother, who sponsored them. I hate to characterize a whole group of people based upon such a small sample, but with the exception of one of them, they are singularly ungrateful for the fact that they would otherwise be living in pure hell.

If they haven't fled to Columbia they are definitely going there to get food items and bringing them back into Venezuela. Saw a few articles on that as well.

This is what the border looks like before they open it...

Maybe that A-hole Obama whose lips never left that dead pig Chavez’s butt can swoop on in and be their messiah. Bernie Sanders always advocates Socialism so maybe he can teach them how to do it the right way. I hear Hillary Clinton knows how to save countries after disaster like Haiti so she can bring her expertise.

Hezbollah has already taken root there... and in exchange for money Maduro has been providing Middle Easterners an entry point into this hemisphere, refuge, and Venezuelan birth certs, visa and other documentation.

They also voted to remove Chavez from power in a recall election, but Chavez rigged the vote count so that he won the election. This socialist government should have been gone a long time ago, but Chavez destroyed functional democracy in Venezuela so that he could remain in power.

I have worked in South America most of my life and the Venezuelan are some of the laziest people on that continent. They were foolish enough to think they all could get thing for nothing, much like most of our younger people in the USA. With their mindset there will be no cure.

Reminds me of my friends in Zimbabwe who would take a bus to the South African border and use the US money I sent her to buy groceries there.

socialism was the reason for that famine too.
