MANDURAH man Boris Pascoe was far from home, drunk and trying to negotiate plane travel and a stopover in a Middle Eastern airport — not usually a recipe for a happy ending.
But, lucky for him, he stumbled, quite literally, into the path of ‘wonder woman’ and fellow Aussie Grace Cheatley in November.
The hilarious shenanigans that ensued has won the internet in a video that’s gone viral, viewed 7.5 million times on LADbible’s Facebook page, and thrust the pair into the media spotlight.
Ms Cheatley started filming Mr Pascoe’s antics when he tried to retrieve his luggage from the overhead locker while at the same time his pants began to dangerously descend.
Still rolling, she captures the moment he nearly falls down the stairs from the plane. It is then that she decides to take him under her wing.
“I’m pretty f***ing sloshed if you ask me!” Mr Pascoe admits, saying he has downed eight alcoholic beverages, including Hennessy cognac for the first time.
Ms Cheatley guides him through the airport and making sure he doesn’t catch the attention of security, tells him to be quiet.
“You gotta be quiet because we are going through security OK,” she says.
“Really quiet, I don’t want to get arrested.”
Ms Cheatley managed to get Mr Pascoe to his boarding gate, buying him water and a toastie, before leaving him the hands of some older men travelling back to Perth.
On Facebook Mr Pascoe said he couldn’t thank Ms Cheatley enough for getting him on his flight home,
Ms Cheatley, from Melbourne was returning to Australia after a two month holiday to Europe and Africa.
Mr Pascoe was returning from the UK, and had had to leave his fiance behind, according to Ms Cheatley, because his visa had run out.
“I thought he was hilarious,” Ms Cheatley said. “He was harmless, not being aggressive or anything and when we eventually landed and he was trying to get his bags out and his bum was hanging out, it was the funniest thing.
“So I just started filming.”
She has been shocked by the interest in the video and pleased with the many positive comments it has attracted from people praising their Aussie mateship.
And, she’s had a laugh about the comments of some trying to matchmake the pair.
“What a great lady, she's a keeper for sure. The guy was a crack up. I bet he's fun when he's sober too lol. They would make a good couple,” one person wrote.
“At least he knows he’s pissed. Like he’s owning the s**t out of it! Also, great job finding a babysitter in the airport like that.”
The pair only reconnected on Facebook after the video, filmed in November, went viral.
Mr Pascoe has been reluctant to draw any more attention to himself and declined an interview.

Now, to start off, that guy is an idiot, but to be honest, he just seems like an idiot. He doesn’t seem malicious at all, just completely dumb and unprepared for life. Like a dumb adolescent puppy dog.
But to be honest...This just made me laugh and grin. How does one wear pants that are that close to completely falling down without actually having them fall down? The look of the man on the plane, and the look of the woman on the bus he sits next to...
And I don’t know anything about that woman, but if I met her, I would absolutely shake her hand. What a gem of a human being.
If I see a drunk stranger, and I avoid them like I would a rabid animal.
But that’s just me - I’m crusty, cantankerous, and not at all generous.
I guess if you are a woman from Oz, this is part of your life experience?

I, for one, am tired of all the old prejudices and bigotry directed towards the Australians.
They are not all drunks and sheepherders.
Can we please put an end to those tales?

That’s why they drink so much.
I completely understand, and I don’t think that makes you a bad person in any way...in today’s world, that is just being smart.
Being drunk in public places far from home, and far from your own country is something I have done, and while I am not proud of it, I think learned from those experiences, and have been both on the drunk side needing help, and the sober side, helping a stranger.
The last time for me was when I was in the USN back in the Seventies, and I was alone, miles from Fleet Landing, just doing my own thing in Taranto, Italy.
I just wanted to get as far away from the ship as possible, and was walking by a road in a little town I had lunch in, and saw a group of people gathered uncertainly around an unconscious man lying in the gutter, and thought I might offer to help, administer first aid, whatever. When I got a look, it was immediately apparent he was an American sailor, obviously intoxicated and passed out. (I have always maintained, I can spot an American military person in a foreign country a mile away...it isn’t just the haircut...it is the entirety, clothes, etc. They just look different...)
Well, there he was, his wallet laying on the ground next to him with some bills sticking out. American Dollars. My heart sank. I thought about just leaving him, but...I couldn’t. Someone picked up his wallet, and another person came over and gave me some more bills-I think they took them out of the wallet because they thought someone might steal them.
A kid offered to give me a ride back to Fleet Landing on his motorcycle, so I jumped on the back, and away we went.
When I got to Fleet Landing, I told the Shore Patrol, and they got a truck and I went back with them to show where he was, and they picked him up and threw him in the back.
Another time in Mallorca, six of us came across another guy, obviously a shirtless sailor, passed out on the beach lying on his back. He was badly sunburned, and we stopped and stood around him. Nobody wanted to do anything about it because we wanted to go to Texas Jacks and meet someone, and I said “Well, we can’t leave him here like this!”
We thought for a second, and then one of the guys walked over, turned him over on his stomach, and said “Let the other side cook...someone else will find him before he’s done! Let’s go, we have a cab waiting!”
So we left. Over the years, I have thought about that, and thought that sure, we SHOULD have done something, and maybe someone DID find him, but...OTOH, he might have burned so badly on that side that he wouldn’t have had a good side to sleep on. Sigh. We were bastards, but if we left him on his back, he was sure to blister.
Why should we be upset if they threw Klaus Barbie on the grill?
The jail in town was jokingly referred to as "Her Majesty's Prison, West", for the string of detained British citizens.
Yes, but you had a connection with that person. US Navy, in-country is a very small circle - a kind of brotherhood. You could say he was not a “stranger.” You immediately knew where he belonged, and his situation. You naturally did the right thing.
On reflection, maybe this woman saw the connection she had with the man, and grasped his background, and his situation.
That’s a good way to put it.
Besides the generosity of her actions, I have no idea what she looks like, but...I liked her eyes and what part of her face I saw, and I have always thought I could tell something about people from just that..in the right circumstances.
If that guy has any sense, he will find some way to meet her again, straighten up himself, and offer to repay her with a dinner and go from there.
Become a made man due to the generosity of a stranger. There was something about her that just made me think, no matter what she looks like, she is worth it!
I don’t know why, this just tickles me...

I only avoid angry drunks, this guy is just #$#%faced as he says... This woman was more kind than she needed to be, and hopefully they both got where they needed to be.

Well that’s something I’ve never heard about before.
I hear you about angry drunks.
I went out partying years ago with a group of people I knew, and a guy came with us who I had met over the years on various occasions. He was decent enough the times I met him when he was sober, but...when he drank, and he did heavily, he became extremely aggressive and unpredictable.
The problem was, he was 6’4” and about 280, and while he was overweight and had a large gut, he still retained some significant musculature from his high school football days, and had been a bouncer, etc.
I’ll be honest, I avoided the guy if there was drinking, but he showed up with this group, so...I figured I would just stay out of his way.
As we walked into this huge dance club with hundreds of people wall to wall, we were making our way through the crowd, I was right behind this guy, when he and a big guy coming the other way bump hard into each other.
They turned and faced each other, and Jesus Christ, the looks on both of their faces looked like imminent violence! I held my breath, sure we were going to have to run out of that place, but after a second or two longer than I felt was safe, his countenance changed, and he said “Hey. How ya doing?” Then they parted and walked on.
He was so unpredictable. After that, I went to a concert with a large group of which he was a part. We had to sit on the grass in the pouring rain, and I left for a while. When I was making my way back to the place where everyone else was, a group of security people with flashlights went hurriedly by, and they turned and went up the direction where the group was sitting.
I was clueless, and thought “Great! These guys are forcing the crowd apart and I can follow in their wake!”
Well, they left me in the dust, and when I got to where my group was supposed to be, I looked around in the pouring rain in vain, streams of water running down the hill I had come up.
My eyes focused on the group of security people with a hysterical woman in their midst, and as I looked, she suddenly pointed at me and said “HE WAS WITH THEM!”
The security people came over, and I denied knowing any of those people and left.
I went straight to the car, and some of the people were back...I asked what the hell happened, and someone said he just whipped it out uphill from a couple and took a piss on the hill, and water flowing down hill as it was, made a path to that woman.
I never saw the guy again after that. That guy was so unpredictable and out of control when he drank, he scared the hell out of me.
To this day, if I am in a group with an angry drunk, I just leave. Happy drunks I am fine with.
Back when we could bring our own water bottles on, I would 1/3 fill one with wine to help me sleep on long flights. Worked like a charm to help 6 hours go fast.
