A man arrested in Redwood City on Monday morning after expressing sexual interest in a toddler pleaded not guilty to felony charges of annoying or molesting a child in San Mateo County Superior Court on Tuesday.
David Donald Lewis, 46, was going through garbage cans near the Redwood City Main Library at 1044 Middlefield Road when a man walked by with his 2-year-old daughter around 10:35 a.m.
Lewis allegedly asked if he could touch the child, at which time her father called the police.
Lewis later told officers that he "thought the little girl was cute and wanted to touch her," prosecutors said.
"I was thinking about sex a little bit," Lewis allegedly said. "She's sexy."
District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said this afternoon that he anticipates a competency hearing at some point to determine whether Lewis is mentally fit to stand trial.
Lewis has a prior conviction from 2015 for annoying or molesting a child. He remains in custody on $50,000 bail and returns to court on Jan. 31.
An attorney from San Mateo County's Private Defender Program has not yet been appointed to his case, and no one was available to comment on his behalf.
Digging through garbage cans? Homeless? Will now have three squares and cot plus medical.
And possibly four beatings a day.
A real creeper.
Three hots ‘n a cot plus (a) a sex change if he wants it; or (b) unlimited boyfriends visiting his cell.
Misleading headline ...
'Cause I believe he should be soaked in rubber cement and allowed to roast, slowly...
Two year olds can be really cute in between tantrums but “sexy”? No.
We have our problems with these creeps too.
Check this out:
Every time I have had an issue with what someone has said to me that was actionable in the great State of Florida, law enforcement response has been not to take me at my word, but to tell me it was my word against the other party’s. And unless I had a reliable witness to the communication, or a sheriff’s deputy witnessed the exchange, there’s no way they can charge the other person with anything based upon my allegation. I see articles like this one all the time, yet the story lines just don’t jive with my experience of law enforcement in Florida these days.
It appears this idiot may have actually told the cops that he thought the little girl was sexy.
These events occurred in California.
This guy would be in a psychiatric hospital before the 1980’s when Reagan closed them down. Ugh. Anyway, why have a competency hearing when he already stood trial before? Get this guy off the streets.
It’s San Francisco area....what do you expect.
I can see it both ways...it might have just been an innocent joke or it could have been a sign of a predator.
The prior conviction suggests predator, but did he just ask to touch her and the father said no, or did he just ask and the father immediately called the police?
The way the story is written, the latter is what happened.
Democrats are incapable of this progression, so they substitute, from bafflement, to frustration because they don't understand, to anger.
I agree, the situation was much worse. Normally, its the other way around.
