PYONGYANG, Korea, Democratic People's Republic Of -- In North Korea, summer is not a good time to be a dog.
With the sizzling heat upon the country, North Korea's biggest brewery is pumping out twice as much beer as usual, Pyongyang residents are queuing up to get their "bingsu" -- a syrupy treat made with shaved ice -- and restaurants are serving up bowl after bowl of the season's biggest culinary attraction: spicy dog meat soup.
Euphemistically known as "dangogi," or sweet meat, dog has long been believed to be a stamina food in North and South Korea and is traditionally eaten during the hottest time of the year, giving a sad twist to old saying "dog days of summer."(continued)

The dog days of summer.
Say the same in South Korea too. Black dog.
I heard it called “kagogi” in the South, which means dog meat.
Que those Old Style "Krausening" commercials.
Yep, eat the bulgogi, but shy away from the kakogi
I guess those old Stroh's "Fire Brewed" beer commercials wouldn't be as effective.
Many years ago, the county health dept busted a local high-end Chinese place for using cat in their pork fried rice. I ate there before and after, though not sure I ate any cat fried rice.

KATUSA say dog is always good but when hot dark is best.
Hang all the dog eaters then feed them to the dogs.
SEND THEN ALL OUT PIY BULLS!
Do they pant heavily afterwards like dogs do to cool down?
I guess its all with what you grow up with. Knew a fellow from Korea whose family immigrated to this country when he was about 5. Two things he found bizarre. Beds on frames, which he kept rolling off the edge. I guess in Korea, like Japan, they sleep on mats on the floor. The other thing was rare hamburger. He was nauseated by bloody hamburgers.
My feelings exactly.
Bulgogi is GREAT. Definitely my favorite Asian food. I got a Korean SIL that makes slap-your-mama level good bulgogi. Very good kimchi too, but I always was a fan of cabbage, myself.
Don’t knock it till you have tried it, yo......
Or are North Koreans eating dogs, because they are hungry, and want something more nutritious than bark off the trees, or grass?
