I think the Awan backers helped to funnel money (maybe like a money-laundering mechanism) via a number of Florida politicians (maybe both GOP and Democrat). If you opened this whole thing up....it might take twenty-odd politicians (maybe even a couple of GOP/Dem senators). That would explain why no one (even Jeffy) has any interest in solving this one. It said evidence “suggests steps are being taken to conceal their activity” and that their behavior mirrored a “classic method for insiders to exfiltrate data from an organization.” Server logs showed that Awan family members made “unauthorized access” to congressional servers in violation of House rules by logging into the servers of members who they didn’t work for. The IG presentation especially found problems on the server of the House Democratic Caucus chaired by then-Cong Xavier Becerra (Dem Calif). On Feb. 3, 2017, Paul Irving, the House’s top L/E officer, wrote to the Committee on House Administration that soon after it became evidence for L/E, Becerra's server went “missing.” “Based upon the evidence gathered, we have concluded these IT employees are an ongoing and serious risk to the House of Representatives, possibly threatening the integrity of US information systems.” Imran, Abid, Jamal, Alvi and a friend were banned from the House network the same day Kiko sent the letter.--SNIP--

Prosecutors have said both Imran Awan and his wife Hina Alvi tried to flee the country, with Awan using an alias.
Imran left a laptop with the user name RepDWS in a phone booth with a letter to prosecutors in March 2017 after being banned from the House network, according to a Capitol Police report.
Imran’s stepmom said in a civil suit that “Imran Awan threatened that he is very powerful and if I ever call the police again, [he] will … kidnap my family members.” His wife Hina said in a Pakistani suit that he “threatened the complainant of dire consequences, he also threatened to harm the lives of family of [Hina] if she intervenes.” Another woman filed a police report in Virginia saying Imran was keeping her “like a slave.”
It emerged that Imran had a secret email address, 123@mail.house.gov, that was not turned off when he was banned, and it used name of an employee for Rep. Andre Carson who specialized in intelligence matters, according to court documents.
It emerged that the Awans own significant real estate holdings in Pakistan that locals say were the fruits of fraud, that charges there were dropped under political pressure, and that they sent money to a Pakistani police officer.

Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi announced in a closed-door meeting Tuesday she would name the first Muslim lawmaker to the House’s Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. A senior Democratic aide said Rep. André Carson of Indiana would be named in the “coming days” to the key national security-focused panel. Pelosi (D-Calif.) told lawmakers of the appointment during the members’ weekly caucus meeting.

Carson would be the first Muslim to serve on the committee and was the second Muslim to be elected to Congress. He already serves on the Armed Services Committee and worked for the Department of Homeland Security’s Fusion Center — the clearinghouse established by the federal government to streamline data sharing between the CIA, FBI, Department of Justice and the military.

The intelligence committee will most likely tackle a series of high-profile international crises during the 114th Congress, including the threat of Islamic militants and Ukraine.

Carson’s office didn’t immediately return a request for comment. The announcement comes in the wake of last week’s terrorist attack by Islamic extremists and subsequent shootouts with police that left 17 people dead. World leaders gathered on Sunday for a 1 million person “solidarity” protest against the violence that targeted French Jews and journalists.
