Cats Rights vs. Human Rights

I put this under "whine", because I'm not sure there is a "nonsense" keyword. It's sort of funny, kind of annoying and just a little bit sad. The point of this thread is that some do-gooders have decided that the "rights" of feral cats in my neighborhood are more important that my right to a good night's sleep.

For several weeks now, we have been awakened, or have been kept awake by yowling cats. The precious pussies don't just howl outside, some of them sit on the windowsill of our bedroom and screech and whine the night away. I've tried throwing shoes, cans, buckets of water. My neighbor's children have learned new words. Nothing stops these felines from Hell. They must know that I'm not fond of cats.

This morning I decided animal control is the way to go. Not only do our furry friends make a lot of noise, but they get in the garbage, eat birds and go without food or shelter. Animal control was helpful, NOT. "You can get on the waiting list for a cat trap, then bring the cat in to us." No way. How about the village offices, they will know... Nope. "No ordinaces against cats, try the police." You must be kidding! But I gave our local officer a call. "Sorry, I don't have a trap, you need to throw something bigger at them.", he chuckled. "How about if I have a ditch tiger safari?", I asked half jokingly. "Welp, that'll work too." Hmmm. Not yet ready to go killing stuff in the night, I found the Animal Protective League. They have a "feral cat program". Outstanding! As soon as I explained our problem and was greeted with antagonistic silence and some toungue clicking I know I had the cat version of the ACLU. "Well! You certainly are talking to the wrong people! Those cats have every right to be there! Our program is a capture and re-release plan. We catch the cats, spay and neuter them, vaccinate them and set them free in their "colonies". We would be happy to do so, but I can tell you are ANTI-CAT! You wouldn't watch over the colony and protect it." WTF??? "So what you're telling me is that my health and welfare takes a back seat to some flea-bitten, garbage strewing, destroyers of natural fauna?" CLICK No joy here.

The sad part of this whole thing is that people do not take the personal responsibility for their pets. They throw them out (especially cats) when Kitty gets pregnant of rips up the curtains. Feral cats are responsible for the extinction of several species of birds, small mammals and marsupials and reptiles. Of equal or greater concern is the fact that this group of "animal rights activists" don't care much about people. I'd bet you any amount of money that the are champions of "reproductive rights" for humans, as well.

Why I hate the lefties at PETA: They piss people off by declaring that animals have the same or more rights than humans. The only rights animals have are whatever we humans afford them, out of compassion for a living entity.

I think your posting is meant to be humorous, but it is pretty sad if all those agencies treated you as you said. Anybody along the line could have told you to borrow a coyote, wolf, or large dog from somebody; the cats would all clear out to the next county, without having to be mutilated by humans.

Okay, I'm a cat person, not exactly in disguise! I hope you find a humane way of ridding your life of these pests. jjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjj <- boy cat on keyboard....

I use to have a problem with neighborhood cats coming into my yard and spraying my house. My hubby got me a rottweiler. No more cat problems.
