Top 10 "excuses" for NOT supporting Duncan Hunter in 2008 (work in progress)

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: ** TOP 10 LIST (First Draft/work in progress) **

RE: (Top 10 reasons NOT to vote for Duncan Hunter in 2008)

31 October 2007

The following is the start of an idea I just came up with and I am asking for your help to build it into a final product for mass production.

If you have spent any amount of time talking to folks about the Republican Presidential Primary in 2008 you will likely have heard at least ONE or more of the following “excuses” for NOT voting for Duncan Hunter. My goal is to rank these excuses in order of “frequency repeated” Since this is a work in progress I am asking for YOUR help in generating a short response to each excuse…. here we go.

#1 - DUNCAN HUNTER IS THE BEST CANDIDATE BUT HE CAN’T WIN..
This is the excuse that I hear most often. The fact of the matter is that it is still very early in the primary campaign season, and the only way to candidate “can’t win” is to drop out of the race.

#2 - DUNCAN HUNTER IS NOT GETTING ANY MEDIA ATTENTION BECAUSE HIS POLL NUMBERS ARE TOO LOW, THEREFORE HE CAN’T WIN.
This excuse generally is accompanied by excuse #1, however the reality is that his poll numbers are lower than they should be because the media REFUSES to give him the attention he deserves. Even in the debates the moderators cut him off and give him far less “air time” than any other candidate.

#3 - DUNCAN HUNTER IS NOT “ELECTABLE” BECAUSE HE IS TOO CONSERVATIVE.
This excuse is laughable, the purpose of a PRIMARY is select the most conservative candidate, if fact Duncan Hunter is likely the only REAL conservative in the race, and voting for any other candidate is an attempt to appeal to the LEFT, which will only result in pushing the conservative base away, and the moderates will flock to the LEFT.

#4 – DUNCAN HUNTER SHOULD RUN IN 2012 or 2016 NOT 2008.
I am seeing this one more and more, and the fact of the matter is that if you REFUSE to support the BEST PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE in 2008, you will do the same thing in 2012 or 2016. So the reality is that his “chances” of winning are just as good in 2008 and they will be in 2012, 2016, or even 2020 for that matter.

Until Hunter can actually raise his poll numbers, he is not the best candidate. You can scream at the top of your lungs that “Hunter is the best”, but Hunter is not winning in the market place of ideas. Campaigning is about WINNING votes, Hunter is not doing that. Coming up with the best list of conservative positions does not win elections. Hunter needs to find a few issues that resonates with people and then effectively articulate it. Screaming I am the most conservative by itself doesn’t win elections.

Well, I’ve got one for ya, but it’s not an excuse, it’s a REASON....I like Fred Thompson because he isn’t a career politician. He seems to view them with the same suspicion that I do. It’s also a plus in my book that he does not represent Baaaston, Nooo Yawk, or Kalifawnia. The man will win his state, plus the rest of the all important south when push comes to shove. That being said, I would certianly support Duncan Hunter if my favorite candidate were not in the race.

Coming up with the best list of conservative positions does not win elections.

Listen to yourself. Then why don't we just all throw our hands up in disgust and acknowledge that we conservatives have lost the war. The liberals have won with an attitude like that. What you are inferring is that we must find candidates that will also attract those self professed conservatives with liberal tendencies in order to win any elections.

As for me, I'll stand and support THE most conservative candidate until he either wins or tells me he is bowing out of the race. I suggest other conservatives find a backbone and do the same. I have never seen such defeatism in the conservative ranks as I have seen here in FR since the campaigns have started. Many conservatives have lost their principles and values. They are becoming French.

I just hope that Fred soon understands that he CAN’T win in the General election because he will NOT be able to hold the conservative base in tact. I don’t think he will be able to pull the so-called moderate voters which is a guaranteed victory for HildaBeast in the General election if Fred Thompson ends up winning the primary.. having said that IF Fred Thompson does end up winning the primary I will vote for him in the General election, but I seriously think that at this point it appears that the REAL conservative base is split which gives way for a LIBERALY FUNDED “GOP Spoiler” like Guliani or Ron Paul to win the primary which will absolutely guarantee HildaBeast the Presidency..

In Dec. ‘03 Howard Dean was 43% in the polls and John Kerry was 13%.

Then three weeks before the primaries, Kerry was only 4%.
But yet some people still support various candidates based on poll #’s.

It’s early enough to support the BEST candidate - Duncan Hunter!

We can’t let polls or MSM brainwashing make our decision for us.

We the People stopped the amnesty bill and we can get Duncan Hunter elected.

Mr. Freddie is not a career “politician” per se, but he is a career INSIDER. He won’t rock the boat.

LOL Mr Freddie.

All the democrats have to do is bring up some of his past votes. In committee he voted to double and triple H-1B visas and then voted for a rule change that allowed American companies to fire Americans and refill the positions with H-1B visa holders.

The democrats remind Americans of that it’s game over.

he can’t have 2016. 2016 is the first election i’ll be old enough to be president, and you guys all should be voting for me :)

I actually think he is going to drop out after super tuesday.

As much as I like him, he is ideal for office, not for campaigning, and he isn't an attention whore, which seems to be a prequisite for office nowadays.

It is early in the race. Duncan should have addequate time to elucidate his credentials. As more people via. Internet and otherwise get a feel for who he is, the tide may change in his favor.

And the #1 reason is:

“Duncan Hunter can’t win because I don’t want him to win. I’m a closet liberal troll trying to influence conservatives to vote against their vested interests at elect the most liberal Republican out there.”

America was starting to stir there for a while. Patriotism was being whipped up. A keen yearning for change was rising!

Then Fred appeared on Jay Leno to say “I’m running for president”, and ethusiasm rose to fevered pitch. The tease was over! The action about to begin!

America waited. It waited some more. And then, quietly, the curtain fell. Instead of action, two minutes of Fred has become the new prescription for a good night’s sleep.

#5 - Hunter supporters think 10=4 :-)

But seriously, shouldn't you make your #1 "Hunter wouldn't make as good a president as X?"

His ideas and positions are fine; it’s just that the MSM has already selected the frontrunners for us, and he’s not one of them. If you disagree, tell us with which of his ideas you disagree.

Please note that of all of the candidates, the three members of the House (Hunter, Paul and Tancredo) are the three with the least visibility from the press.

david, I keep hearing people say that his service in the House has not adequately prepared him to be POTUS (if you want to use that for one of your reasons).

But I vehemently disagree!
