OK, go with the indirect path; he will just find more sponsors who will come in after the act. I understand the tactic, but you are hoping it will have an effect on him. If he keeps making money he won’t care.

I believe the best effect will be acheived by going for the target, not the target’s current financing.

The best ones to hit at on this list would be Kelloggs and McDonalds since they target children and families. Same with Mars. I am personally hitting at my affiliate station here in town and the businesses I presently deal with—AAA, ATT and Directv— and will let them know in no uncertain terms I will not renew with them when my contract(s) end.

Be sure to mention in your communications that you have blocked CBS on your TV lineup.

Dear Mr. Fox;

I understand that my not watching KTVN has no effect on CBS.

I do expect however, that you will inform CBS in the strongest possible manner that Mr. Letterman is costing KTVN viewers.

Sincerely,

Mad_as_he$$

Dear Mr. He$$,

Thank you for writing. I share viewer comments with CBS so that they are aware of viewer response to their programming. I am truly sorry to hear that you have decided not to watch KTVN Channel 2 News due to comments made on the David Letterman program. Our local news and David Letterman have no connection and in fact your not watching Channel 2 News has no negative impact on CBS or David Letterman.

I hope you will reconsider your decision.

Again, I am forwarding your comments to CBS so that they are aware of your thoughts.

This applies to KTVN. I used to watch the morning news. Now I will watching to Channel 8.

I am writing to complain about Mr. Letterman’s disgusting comments regarding the Palin Family.

Does he have to stoop so low as to attack a 14 year old child with disgusting sex jokes to get a laugh?

I was a big fan of several of your programs. Especially NCIS. I have programmed my CBS affiliate out of the program lineup on my cable box and will be boycotting your sponsors.

Sincerely,

Mad_as_he$$

Nope. The whole point is that if advertisers want to stay away from his show CBS will see he is toxic. The new ads will be targeted in the same way. When CBS sees that ads on Letterman get in trouble, they’ll be hurt.

Good work. The point is to hammer home to CBS through it’s advertisers (whether direct or indirect to Letterman) and local affiliates that this is unacceptable.

Letternut is on his way out and I think he saw the writing on the wall when Leno left and the new guy took over, and to support his new time slot Leno will be on before his replacement assuring a two hour black out of Letternut.

Interestingly enough Alaska, along with several other states has no statutory dueling prohibition.

That's interesting info, Wood. Thanks.

As I said on another thread, in a better and more honorable age, Letterman would pay a physical price at the hands of father Todd for this insult.

I agree with everything but your “Nope.” It may be because I believe more in the direct approach.

A cage fight between Lecherman and Todd Palin would garner great contributions to charity. I wonder if any freepers would contribute to pay-for-view to see that contest.

Not to mention the racial slur against A-Rod, that Hispanic men are rapists?

Thanks for making their address convenient.

I have just mailed a handwritten letter stating:

‘I find it contemptible that your organization, whose primary market is the teenage segment, could condone in any way, shape, or form, comments, disparaging comments, or jokes regarding the RAPING of a 14 year old girl. I know that threats of boycott would have a minuscule impact on your sales. However, without some overt action on your part, I will do all I can to avoid your products and encourage others to do the same.

Name
address

Conservatives need to start exercising their economic clout on some real issues. This is one that we all should be behind.

The response I got from Best Western:

Thank you for your email concerning Best Western advertising on television. We apologize for your dissatisfaction. We appreciate you taking the time to write and thank you for your comments.

Best Western International is not affiliated with any network channel, or programs shown. Advertising time is purchased through a media agency, not the actual network.

We at Best Western are aware that every traveler has many choices available when selecting accommodations. We are honored you chose Best Western, and we will continue to do our best to be worthy of your selection.

Thank you, Chad Customer Care Best Western International

... and this after I said I would not be staying at a Best Western until I saw an apology or a change in their support of letterman. "Chad" is probably just a kid responding with the "computerized" email. "Hey, its not our fault."

Keep pressing. If they see enough pressure they will reconsider their association with CBS. “Through an agency”? Sure... as if they have no influence where their ads are being played. LOL.

Bever, with the CBS affiliate in Anchorage, rubbed me the wrong way when he referred to Sarah Palin as “controversial.”

What’s controversial about Sarah Palin? That she’s a conservative? She believes in the Second Amendment? She supports the war in Iraq and has a son fighting there? That she’s a Christian? That she gave birth to her Down’s Syndrome baby instead of having an abortion? Because she loves America? Because she hates Big Government? Because she wants to drill for oil on American territory? Etc., etc......

I wouldn’t call her controversial.....I’d call her a sensible, patriotic, freedom loving American.

Thanks.

In their favor, I've known Mars to be a close-knit, family-run organization that is very responsive to community concerns.

Would be great for some of the New York FReepers
to FReep in front of the theater Lettermale does is show
while the line forms.

Signs reminding what Lettermale said and list some of the sponsors to boycott
