After owning 2 GM vehicles, and 1 Ford vehicle, each of which had constant severe mechanical and service issues, I bought a Kia Sorrento 3 1/2 years ago. I have yet to send it to the shop for a severe mechanical issue.
I know this is anecdotal evidence, but that Kia beats the crap out of any overpriced Detroit-made vehicle I have had over the last 15 years.

"KIA? Yuck."
I'm old enough to remember that being said about several other foreign automakers...
Datsun? Yuk! Toyota? Yuk!
Even Volkswagen took more than 20 years to get it right in America.
The KIA Soul and the Forte are getting rave reviews everywhere. The Forte was the number one KIA seller in the C4C program. Motor Trend says:...While the Forte stands well on its own, it shines next to the competition. Aimed squarely at the highly successful Toyota Corolla, the Forte brings more high-tech features to the table, along with slightly better fuel economy, comparable or better prices and a better warranty. The only question left is whether or not the new kid on the block will be able to steal sales away from the veteran. Wed advise Toyota to pay attention, because theres a good chance of that happening.
Edmund's says:...Amid the growing crowd of compacts, this affordable Kia holds its own. We consider the Forte a legitimate alternative to traditional segment leaders due to its eye-catching style, competitive feature content and good value.
The last time I heard those words they were spoken of Hyundai models. Hyundai/Kia now occupy the 5th place in sales, .3 behind Nissan.
BTW, I'm 57, and I took my first driver's license test in my Aunt's brand new Datsun 510. LOL
I hope American automakers start taking their foreign competition more seriously than your comment, or else we'll be completely done.
