In all seriousness, I think schools should be open 12, 13, 14 hours a day, seven days a week, 11-12 months of the year, Duncan said. This is not just more of the same. There would be a whole variety of after-school programs. Obviously academics would be at the heart of that. But you top it off with dancing, art, drama, music, yearbook, robotics, activities for older siblings and parents, ESL classes.
He continued by explaining that the American school calendar is antiquated and must be modified so that American students can compete at the highest levels internationally.

Yup. Just turn the kids over to the government.
Not sure he is wrong (that kids need more serious schooling for the modern era ahead, a better work ethic inculcated early) ... but then, I fail to see why GOVERNMENT should be the default operator of schools.
It’s not like there is any education going on at these schools.
Regimentation of children by the state. Stalin would be impressed.
They could be educated a lot better in the same number of hours but that would upset the union. Don’t you know it takes 12 years of union teachers to get a kid to read on a 7th grade level?
In other words, “Give us more money, more brainwashing needs to take place”.
Keep the feds out of our schools. It’s none of their business.
Yeah, typical liberal outlook: parents, don’t take responsibility for your kids, raising your family. No accountability, just let the nanny state take care of them. In other words, we’d like more time to indoctrinate them.

Goodnesswins calls for the abolition of the Department of Education....and especially for the abolition of the Education Secretary’s job.....GET the GOVERNMENT OUT of EDUCATION....they’ve failed.
Why not just keep them in school 24 hours a day every day until they graduate? We could put them in holding cells with bunk beds during the night, build high fences with barbed wire to keep them from escaping, and force them to wear black & white striped jump suits and leg irons. Of course, relatives could visit on weekends.
Hitler and Mao would be tickled, too.
exactly...and then pay for the indoctrination
Most of the teachers at the high school I work at are gone two minutes after the bell rings. You won’t find too many who’ll go for this. Now if there’s a second shift...
Seven hours is more than enough if you get rid of the following: diveristy classes, self esteem classes, pointless assemblies, the option of 2 studyhalls, a lot of social studies lessons etc. Also don’t make science optional and require math every year along with teaching phonics and real language (not writing poems or asking how a book makes you feel)
The goal being to separate the children from their parents.
CommieCrates have a well thought-out plan, and are well on their way to implementing, while the GOP Leadership stands on the sidelines being congenial.
Hell, why not just take the eggs and sperm from the non-productive and produce an army of worker drones! Oh, that’s right. Drones don’t pay taxes. DARN!
