The next 72hs: What last minute preps to take?

What you would be looking at would be civil unrest in most mayor US cities and thousands of minor ones as well. Once the images of people looting and getting away with it hit the TV you’re looking at thousands of bums thinking of doing the same thing and rushing out the door to the nearest store. That gets bad pretty fast. You’re talking about looting, fires, closed stores, destruction of vehicles and private property, and given US context some gang related activity taking advantage of the lawless situation as well to settle scores. While invasion of residential properties wont be as common as the looting of commercial property, it can happen in several cases.

Costco has 50lbs rice for $17 and 50lbs bread flour for $16.
That’s 2000 calories a day for 82 days for $33.
Easy backup or starting point.
No-brainer for first step or easy extension.

For those of you who would want an idea of what an economic collapse looks like I suggest you watch an excellent documentary available on YouTube Part One is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rH6_i8zuffs

As a armed society with a very large entitlement minded population I expect that our collapse will be much more violent and I see many many a small business wiped out by looting, think Katrina/L.A. all rolled into one.

I also see what I call ‘Pocket Pogroms’ taking place in many big ‘Blue’ cities and if you aren’t a ‘0bamamite yute’ or one of ‘Holder’s People’ it’s going to get Reginald Denny bad for you very quickly.

I hate to add this, but I don’t like what I am seeing trending with LEO’s lately in the news. I am not sure if it’s stress or what, but there seems to be a growing disfuction in the area of ‘To protect and Serve’ among LEO’s. In a SHFT situation calling on LEO’s for help I think will end in not only not getting help you need, but actually end up with you very sorry you called.

For those who are just starting or are old hands at prepping you may find my Preparedness Manual helpfull. You can download it at:

http://www.tomeaker.com/kart/preparedness1i.pdf

For those of you who haven’t started already it’s time to prepare almost past time maybe. You needed to be stocking up on food guns, ammo, basic household supplies like soap, papergoods, cleaning supplies, good sturdy clothes including extra socks, underwear and extra shoes and boots, a extra couple changes of oil and filters for your car, tools, things you buy everyday start buying two and put one up.

As the LDS say “When the emergency is upon us the time for preparedness has past.”

Or as the bible says: A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it.
NIV Proverbs 22:3

“There is no greater disaster than to underestimate danger.
Underestimation can be fatal.”

Almost picked up one of those Chinese SKS’s this weekend.

But I got tons of .223 and would rather get something else that can shoot it...

Maybe an AR15 or another Mini...

"The next 72hs: What last minute preps to take?"

I'd be one of those rural people, who continues life as usual (rural people being "weird," according to some suburban folks).

Keep it simple - and cheap. Don’t try to stock up planning on big, fancy dinner parties. Depends on what your current living situation is as to what you need to stock. For instance, we have a well with prep for manual use, so we didn’t need to store up a lot of drinking water. Think it out and do what is right for you; and don’t stress. Make a start a step or two at a time, and keep on a day at a time.

I have huge amounts of ammo (I usually buy range ammo in lots of 500 to 1000 rounds at gun shows)and lots of components to load more.

I also have enough firearms to arm my neighborhood and extended family.

I live in the unincorporated part of a county, have a steam through my back yard for water and my neighbor across the steam has livestock in his pasture.

Things could collapse in inner cities until the national guard/army is called out, but I doubt that riots would last more than a couple weeks, before things were brought under control.

I also have a well, who did you get to made it also prep for manual...I have been thinking the same thing for my well. For me, when power goes out no water, when the grid went down for 3 weeks a few years back, water was the only thing I needed...used match to start gas stove and kerosene heater for the home. Did you do it yourself...my well is only about 35 foot deep. The pump has been replaced and the pipe and pump were pretty easy to bring up but I had a well man do it....

Lead story on tonite’s evening news in my area, Pittsburgh PA, at least a hundred urban teenagers invaded a McDonalds in East Liberty, rioted and trashed it, then went to Trader Jo’s across the street and then to a newly-opened Target where they trashed the toy aisles in an hour long rampage before police got things under control. One youth was arrested. Witnesses said they were also harassing patrons. There was also a similar youth riot within the past week at a movie complex.

Thanks. Gun show again in 2 weeks. I went yesterday but didn’t make it today.

Gun show has tables from companies that have FFL (in which case, if you buy from them, you got the paperwork.)

Also tables for private sales.

But here in Washington, private sales are completely legal, as long as neither party has reason to believe the other party is prohibited from owning guns. So it’s cash on the nail and walk away!

I did buy a gun back about 1981 that I 4473’d for, but never had to since then.

You have to be a member of Washington Arms Collectors to buy at the show in either case.
