Just to be sure... when people talk to you ... you never associate they facial expressions, tone, or body movement with whatever it is they are saying, correct?

As an example... lets say your at a ceremony that has a justified air of reverence .. you just normally carry on conversations with those around you to make obvious statements that have no importance?.

So lets say during a funeral you just chat and make comments about the casket without recognizing that your speech is an insult to the others around you?

And if anybody questions why you failed to behave properly you let them know that your friends have been trained for these kinds of things but you did not get to go to that class?

The last 3 words are definitely "fold that flag". Not sure the first words, but without audio...

I think if we make too much of this we'll get burned. I'm sorry.

You need to go back and slowly watch the video again.

My take: “Do you believe how they fold that flag”. Could be admiration — or not.

I agree that lip reading is used to some extent. But on those occasions, there is context. I don’t necessarily buy that we know the context Michelle was speaking under, which could dramatically alter our interpretation of the event. Also, as to emphasizing how much interpretation is going on, I don’t get the impression she was being negative in her comment. I get a feeling that she is being awe struck.

Another poster noted that it was just disrespectful for her to say anything at that moment. I think yes, if you are well groomed statesman or states-lady (whatever :)), you probably would keep your mouth shut since you are visible, and your actions could bear interpretation, but I have not gotten the impression from M.O. that she is any way groomed to be a states-lady.

The words need to match the facial expression and body language and you have yet to provide a possible positive statement that would match those.

Sometimes I shake my head “no” when I’m conveying that something was powerful or meaningful or awesome. As if to say “Boy oh boy”. I agree with post # 59. I think this is nothing — and I fear if we make too much out of it, WE’LL look like kooks.

So you are saying that it is more likely that she was saying something positive and respectful while she was being rude and disrespectful of the moment?

So her facial expression is what you see when people make positive comments?

Would you use her expression when complementing someone?

There is no confusion about what Michelle's expression implied.

I feel very sorry for you because talking with other human beings must result confusion and misunderstanding on daily basis in your life.

sklar “Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar”. And when you consider her back ground and her own admittance that she has little pride for this country the likelihood she said something positive is pretty much nil.

I have it figured out.

They were obviously filming the next season of Curb Your Enthusiasm and that wasn't Moochelle, it was actually Larry David in Black Face making one of his usual inappropriate comments.

Yeah, that's the ticket.

The last 3 words are definitely "fold that flag"

With this, I think you're the one now claiming a bridge too far. I don't think it is possible to definitely distinguish "fold that flag" from "for that flag" with the kind of lip-reading we are doing.

As to whether she is shaking her head in disgust or in wonder, one would have to know her mannerisms well to say beyond doubt.

But there is nothing we know from their background that should cause anyone to necessarily assume she didn't say "all this for that flag" with disgust.

“My take: “Do you believe how they fold that flag”. Could be admiration — or not.”

After multiple watchings I think this or some variation is correct. Not solid enough to blow up.

Rude and disrespectful is a powerful claim, I would say it just follows along with her lack of grace in the public eye.

So if you calm down that rude & disrespectful portion of your question, then yes, I agree with what you are claiming.

I sincerely doubt everyone else looking in did not have a similar awestruck feeling. It’s just that Michelle was on camera.

Now that you mention Larry David, interpreting Moochelle’s gaffe reminds me of a Seinfeld episode in which George Costanza brings a deaf woman to read lips at a party and tells him “sweep with him” is “sleep with him.”

Knowing everything we know about Zero and wife, I am not sure why anyone should insist on giving them the benefit of the doubt on this.

Rush Limbaugh can read lips.

Wonder if this will come up on the show tomorrow.
