Just curious how people feel about Presidential use of Executive Orders.

Are you ok with Obama using Executive Orders to bypass Congress to get his agenda through?

TOPICS: Chit/Chat; Government; Politics
KEYWORDS: obama
I have another question that I will be polling later. Thanks in advance for any that take the poll.

Every time Obama attempts to go around the Congress by using an executive order they need to smash it down immediately.

They shouldn’t allow him to get away with these stunts.

Your question is only specific to Obama. I have a problem with any President using Executive Orders to get around Congress.

Only Congress can make laws!!!

Since you asked, I guess its time for the next question.

From an article posted by Cincinatus' Wife earlier:

Republican Perry to lay out energy jobs proposals

In excerpts of his speech released by his campaign, Perry will say his plan can largely be carried out through a series of executive orders without requiring congressional approval.

Republican Perry to lay out energy jobs proposals (I gave a direct link to the Reuters article because the link in her thread has changed to some other article at the time of this posting. Not sure why Reuters does that.)

Now to the next Freeper Poll question.

It would ok for Perry to use Executive Orders to bypass Congress to get his agenda through?

It all depends on what the EOs are being used for. If it's something clearly in the Executive's purview, that's one thing. If the next president can use EOs to undo fiat policies this administration has put into place, crippling this economy, I don't see the problem.

If it's using EOs to enact a policy specifically rejected by the Congress, that's altogether something else and that's where Obama's gone.

If you can't see any difference, I suggest you think on it.

I suggest you reread the question. I specifically asked if it was ok to use Executive Orders to BYPASS CONGRESS.

While the EO does bypass the U.S. Congress and the standard legislative law making process, no part of an EO may be illegal or unconstitutional. The first EO was issued in 1789 by none other than George Washington. Not until 1907 were EOs given official numbers.

Reasons for Issuing an Executive Order
Presidents typically issue an EO for one of these purposes:
1. Operational management of the executive branch
2. Operational management of federal agencies or officials
3. To carry out statutory presidential responsibilities

As I said earlier, congress has the power to veto any E/O. It doesn’t matter who the President is.

And to answer your question, no. The President should abide by the law and seek congressional approval. If the E/O is only for admin matters for the Executive branch, then I think that would be ok.

Gov. Perry isn’t making law — he’s rolling back EPA-Obama imposed restrictions.
