Yep, by placing the contracts for five years worth of ammo (the ‘billion rounds’ stories being spread around) it creates a bottleneck in the system as manufacturers have to set aside enough to fulfill the contracts first. The billion rounds in contract doesn’t even mean the government is taking delivery on them, it just means they are putting in contracts to lock up the manufacturers who got into those contract situations.
It also has hurt everyone else in the supply chain as primer shortages are hurting every manufacturer, even those who don’t fulfill government contracts.

The feds are buying copious amounts but also consider how many new guns were sold this past year. The civilian and government market are both going full bore. Ammo is not imppossible to get if you are dedicated. I have picked up about 200 rounds of 5.56 over the last couple weeks just popping into Academy Sports whenever I pass by. I know that isn’t much to a high volume shooter but many of those guys are reloaders anyway.
What about that ammo contract with a company in... what was it New Mexico, Arizona or wherever... that never existed? You can’t tell me the usurper isn’t playing a deadly game. Who’s pocket did that $$$ go into and what exactly was bought?

I had a dealer at a show I went to on Sat tell me that there’s no truth that the Feds are buying all the ammo including hollow points which is what I was looking at. He said the “rumor” was causing panic buying. I questioned him for awhile but he said he’s been in the business for 20 years so I couldn’t argue with him.
On another thread where I actually read the contracts. It appeared the contracts were an option, locking in price and qty but they only took delivery of a few hundred.
I thought I had seen the contracts too. Anyway, this guy kept telling me you can’t believe anything on the internet, I just just purchased some of his inventory and went on my way.
Since the gun makers boycott of selling to gun control state police agencies is being overcome by the DHS providing them military weapons, it would probably be a good counter for the manufacturers to add a EULA to their guns and ammo.

If you check gunbroker, you’ll see at least 20,000 rounds of 7.62 NATO for auction in 1K lots, plus a NJ police station selling a couple barrels of 7500 rounds of 308. They get more on auction then selling it to customers. That 7500 rounds looks tempting—a tidy little profit could be had, but need the means to haul it back home.

Nope, Academy is on my way back from work so I pop in a couple of nights a week and brought the wife on a saturday.
I have been trying to get my hands on some .22 LR ammo for months! I was finally able to find a Remington Bucket O Ammuntion, which is 1,400 rounds of hollow point 22 LR!
Paid out the rear end for it though!
