Rear admiral vows to continue sharing faith

WASHINGTON—Faith in the military took center stage Thursday at the 62nd observance of the National Day of Prayer in Washington, D.C, as lawmakers and faith leaders gathered on Capitol Hill.

After a series of speakers addressed those gathered at the Cannon Office Building, U.S. Coast Guard Rear Adm. William D. Lee, took the microphone to represent Americans serving in the military. Lee told the crowd he had 10 minutes of carefully prepared remarks, but he decided to leave them in his chair and “speak from the heart” instead. Lee, who described himself as “a man of deep abiding faith who happens to wear a uniform,” went on to defy any efforts to stop military personnel from openly sharing their Christian faith—a topic sparking widespread controversy in the media this week. In coming years all who call ourselves Christians will have to stand and be counted, and endure the persecution that will follow. Jesus himself predicted it, and it is here in the US now.

My son is a Marine, stationed in Okinawa. When he first arrived he was a young PFC, in a new world, far from home. He found he had some common interests with his superior CO and they seemed to hit it off. Soon thereafter, his CO invited him to a Bible study, which was completely voluntary. Every Sunday they watched internet sermons and worshipped together. Through that study, my son found some of his best friends. It created for him a piece of his Christian home away from home.

I’m guessing this is happening in all our bases. If the Obama administration forces it underground, their determination will only grow stronger.

They have no king but Jesus.

President Barack Obama said, “Prayer brings communities together and can be a wellspring of strength and support.”

And I pray every day that your mission to destroy America is thwarted by true Americans and that our country can return to it's ideals, despite your disaster of an administration.

Sounds like the shallow-water navy has the most courageous and upstanding rear admiral.

My Dad served in the Coast Guard during World War II. Dad passed away 5 years ago, but I know he’s proud that the Coast Guard has such a leader.
