A transformation is taking place in academic America especially at the big, public land-grant colleges in the Midwest. Among the top campuses with the most international students some have seen an increases of more than 40 percent in the last five years.

Wait until the Feds fix colleges. That will make it all better.

My niece just came home from Cambridge. Many of the students are Chinese.

We actually have had fewer international students the past few years than before. And most of those are from South America and Russia/Belarus.

Except for the graduate school—I teach undergrads, so that’s what I see.

I’m sure the Chinese love sending students here, no other place outside of China can they learn how to be a good communist.

There are about 900,000 foreign students attending US colleges. Yes, most of them pay full tuition, but they are subsidized by the US taxpayer.

And the GOP and the Dems want to attach green cards to their diplomas. With 20 million Americans unemployed or underemployed, this makes no sense.

My works at the office at a local college that supports the international students. They actually have full time employees in China, Mongolia, and a few other countries scouting out students.

This year there are a LOT of chinese. We’ve had them over to our farm for picnics.

Unfortunately that is what much of higher education has become. The Chinese at his point are actually living the concepts of Free Enterprise more and more while we are devolving into Socialism and a dictatorship where the president can do whatever he wants to do without consequences.

Money is one thing, but you have to wonder why the Chinese would send their kids to school here. To get our technology? Are universities in China that bad? Are they spies? Is it cheaper for them? Overcrowding in Chinese universities? There may be more students than can be accepted at Chinese U...............

RE: Chinese students make up for declining American enrollment at U.S. colleges?

Anecdotal evidence in the STEM courses in many colleges here in the NYC and surrounding areas show this to be quite TRUE.

There is a DISPROPORTIONATE Asian (Chinese especially) representation in the STEM majors where I live.

So why don’t we use the UK model and have foreign students subsidize American students.

Chinese parents send their over here en masse to go to our colleges, but they won’t have a damned thing to do with our high schools. Probably because high schools here, especially the suburban ones, are mostly about sports and clubs and if some actual learning or skill building happens it’s a bonus. I’m pretty sure Chinese parents aren’t quaking in fear at the thought of their kids competing with yours on grades.

Just another technology grab. We seem determined to train our competition not only militarily but also industrial technology items.

They probably also pay only resident prices meanwhile other Americans from outside states pay through the nose.
Everything against the actual American in America. We are a stupid people regarding our leaders IMO.
