Refresh my memory. How did JFK move the country in a fundamentally different direction?
Kennedy gave a few inspiring speeches, but what did he actually do? He committed the US to landing a man on the moon, but the space program was already underway before he became President (the first US satellite was launched early in 1958).
He gave verbal support to civil rights but was pretty clueless in handling the crisis at Ole Miss when James Meredith enrolled there, and he did not address the March on Washington.
He pushed for a tax cut--not exactly a fundamental transformation (or one that modern Democrats would embrace), and increased the US involvement in South Vietnam. Peace Corps? Not a "fundamental transformation."
