The California owner of a Rottweiler that was fatally shot by police has been charged with multiple felony counts on Tuesday, including one charge of intimidating a witness.

He is currently being held on $310,000 bail and faces up to five years in prison if convicted of the six felony counts and one misdemeanor he is charged with.

Leon Cordell Rosby, a 52-year-old man from Hawthorne, Calif., was walking his dog “Max” while watching a police response to a robbery on June 30. The California man had loud music playing from his car and was videotaping the showdown with his cell phone.

No, what’s happened to you is the media has done it’s job. Every day there are hundreds of thousands of interactions between police officers and the public they serve. Which interactions are forced down your throat? The very small percentage that either go bad or where the cops are idiots. That’s what you are being fed. And you are happily swallowing it. Are there bad cops out there? Yup. And there are bad lawyers and bad doctors and bad teachers as well. But you don’t see those on the news. So you don’t care.

“I have zero sympathy for this thug.

As for the dog: The thing was aggressive and inches from the cops. Were they supposed to wait for the biting to start?”..........

I agree. Anyone with an ounce of common sense could have seen there was an incident that the police were handling and, even if he did not agree with their tactics, why insert himself and the dog into the fray. (Stupid ass he is). Now the dog is dead and he is heading to the slammer just for being STUPID.

I don’t care what you think of the cops being good or bad, unless you are part of the “action”, stay the hell out of it.

So buy a camera that you can wear. The cameras today are so small there barely noticeable.

If the police can video us we can return the favor just to maintain a neutral playing field.

The Police shouldn’t get away with violating our civil rights any more than criminals should get away with committing crimes.

Besides that response making almost no grammatical sense, it has zero to do with my original post. What I said has nothing to do with this particular dog shooting.

“I hope those cops get fired, and the man wins a huge settlement from the city. “

You can dream. Unfortunately, thanks to their union rarely do bad cops get fired even when they mistakenly kill people. Even when they cost the taxpayers lots of money, they keep going on.

I used to think there were only a few bad apples. However, there’s one thing I noticed about almost all the videos showing cops behaving badly: other cops around them hardly ever try to stop them, and most times join in the mayhem. We should wake up and stop giving these thugs the benefit of the doubt. It’s had to say I’ve been wrong all these years, but there is a self-selection process at work here where many bullies are attracted to the career as a cop.

That article is from 2010. A lot has changed in the four years since then. The Supreme Court has issued, IIRC, two rulings in this area, and they don't support the police claims. Federal case law in several circuits has overturned the bans, those cases will probably never reach the Supreme Court because a) State solicitors know damn well that the SCOTUS isn't going to be on their side, and further pursuit is a waste of money and b) No Federal Court, has ever upheld the two party wiretap standard with respect to taping public officials in the public performance of their duties.

Never.

The Illinois law, cited in this article, has been vacated by the Illinois Supreme Court.

Finally getting the message that depriving US Citizens of their Constitutional rights under color of law is a losing and expensive proposition, police departments are increasingly warning their foot soldiers not to arrest citizens who tape them, or seize their recording equipment without due process.

” Of course, yes, it was wrong and cruel for the police to shoot his dog that way.”

The dog was physically in contact with the officer in an aggressive mode.

“Why the hell did they take him into custody?”

I couldn’t make out all the words but he apparently was taunting the police.

“He was just standing on a street corner. He wasn’t bothering anyone, and he wasn’t interfering with anyone.”

Did you hear what he was mouthing to the cops?

That's a fair question. The video shows (or appears to show) the man standing on a street corner, doing nothing wrong.

But the news article says that the man was "taunting" the police. What does that even mean? Why were no details of that given?

And remember, unless it was altered, the video is neutral. But the news article is reporting what the police told them. Not so neutral.

Speaking of neutral, I suppose I'm not looking at this neutrally myself. But I'm tired of police excesses, of cops shooting dogs, old men, and mentally challenged folks.

Cops need to start thinking less like "law enforcement officers" and more like "peace officers."

Oh yes I understood that reference as well.....the left and the communists have been pushing the other view for decades. Animal Farm is hardly where we are.... but if you want to be that pessimistic have at it
