Could The Syrian Conflict Irrevocably Change Global Geopolitics?

Few meetings ever started with dimmer prospects for success than the recent meeting between Presidents Obama and Putin.

The real call for the meeting stemmed from the EU refugee crisis. With a human catastrophe brewing in Europe and the Middle East, EU leaders are urgently demanding that the U.S. and Russia set aside their differences and begin to work together in an effort to resolve the Syrian conflict, the major cause of the massive movement of people seeking sanctuary.

Now, U.S./EU leaders are no longer insisting on the removal of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad from office as a pre-condition to negotiations over a new government, although the U.S. continues to insist that al-Assad's removal become part of any final settlement.

But how can such fundamental differences be set aside when the two sides can't even agree on the enemy they're fighting? The U.S. and its allies have defined the Syrian conflict as a civil war against a despotic regime. The Russians define the conflict as an invasion by foreign Islamic radicals, paid and supported by U.S.' Middle Eastern allies.

I think global bad actors have determined that the only ammunition this president has to back up his words are more words. What used to be the military-industrial complex under former Presidents that would relentlessly carpet bomb global hotspots with ordinance to “persuade” enemies to come to their senses has sadly under this administration morphed into the military-verbal diarrhea complex with this President carpet bombing the Middle East with verbal diarrhea for the last 6 years while they successfully go about their business of terrorizing each other as he retreats and cedes leadership to others

Syria is becoming essentially a proxy war between the U.S. and Russia, like Vietnam or Korea, but with a twist.

It’s no longer about Communism vs. Capitalism, now it’s about which strain of Islam will get the the honor of leading the assault on Israel: the Russian-backed Iranian alliance, or the U.S. backed jihadists. Once they settle that little spat, they’ll turn their eyes westward, to their true goal.

Ya think?

Look at the map. Putin already has Europe's whatchamakallits in a vice because he controls so much of Europe's gas deliveries. And he's not shy to use the "gas" weapon to pressure Europe to bend to his will.

If he and his Iranian droogies take Iraq and Syria, they will control essentially ALL of the East-West pipelines supplying Europe, and then watch out. We will risk losing NATO as Europe is brought to its knees by Russia's turning off the energy flows as the USA refuses to lead an effective response.

And what happens when Putin pulls all of North Africa into his sphere, which he will be positioned to do? Then all of NATO will be flanked from three sides - dig it - ALL LAND ROUTES to NATO will be cut off. NATO will be like an overgrown Britain in 1940 - pushed from the land and left with an every-more-doubtful control of the oceans.

How can we stand by and watch this happen?

OK, I get that Valerie Jarret and Obama are pro-Iranian, pro-Muslim, anti-Christian traitors, but why in the world isn't anybody doing anything about it?

This is TREASON. Is there nobody in the US Military or Intelligence Services, DOD or Congress with a shred of integrity?

Do it yourselves.

The quicker over take of Europe by this violent element will result in an even more anti-Semitic Europe. It will also affect the cooperation America will get from Western Europe going forward. Look at Britain. There are already Muslim strongholds in their cities.

It will never happen. The Far Right in Europe grows by the day. There will be anti-semitism all right, but “semites” in that context will include Arabs. IMHO, there’s a huge reaction coming. They’d all better tuck tail and run.

I don't know. For that to happen we need to believe that the average European is completely out of step from their leadership. To say European leadership has been “arabist” is to downplay it. It has been a coordinated hand over to the Muslim crowd for decades.

Certainly the Europeans are moving to the Right generally. The Far Right is on the march. This Muslim immigration crisis will only advance their cause. Not that this is necessarily a good thing. But clearly the reaction is coming and the European elites will, as always, be taken completely by surprise. Look how Donald Trump took the GOPe by surprise. They just can’t imagine how the average conservative prefers The Donald to Jebby. Same in Europe.

You could very be right. I was hopeful for UKIP but they failed to make inroads in the last UK election. The Europe I witnessed in the early 90s were complacent and smug. Maybe that has changed.
