Even the Founders, a grouping singular in the history of men concerning the brilliance of their intellects and the purity of their motives knew they couldn't trust themselves to form or maintain a government of fallible men to rule over fallible men
In America today a debate rages concerning the legitimate role of government. Currently the Federal Government is controlled by a group of politicians who consider themselves the ideological descendants of the Progressive Movement.
Beginning in the 1890s, the Progressives led by Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson championed the idea that it was time to progress past Americas old ways of doing things. They felt the traditions, forms, and style of American governance and society should break-out of the mold provided by the Constitution by casting it as a living Breathing Document that could be remolded to meet the desires of every generation.
Though not clearly stated within, the Constitution was based on what was, at the time of its being drafted, a universal assumption from a universal biblical world view - that man is sinful, and left to his own - especially when given power and when in government - he would take over in selfish interest.
Thus it was designed to minimize the effect of the sinful nature of men in government, but having 3 branches that would each keep the others in check.
Liberals, progressives, Democrats, socialists and communists all totally reject this fundamental understanding of the nature of man, believing that man is inherently good, and will always be motivated by good.
This Marxist world view so loved by Democrats, has proven to be wrong in all of US history - but not one will ever admit this.
Their view that all men are good, and thus all men in government are good - is destroying our nation.
Ultimately of course, more than a rejection of this truth about the nature of man, they reject God Himself. And all through history, when men reject God - he leaves them to their own ends, and they destroy themselves.
Apart from divine intervention - for which we of course pray - we are far along that path..........
To bad this "Historian of the Future" didnt see this coming before over 50% of the population got good and latched on to the gubm'nt tit.
I try to imagine what a conservative grassroots American of the early to mid 1800s would think of me (us)?
Dead men walking. Tick. Tock. Just a little while longer. That is what they probably think. The future is ordained. It’s the physics and the nature of man.
The horizontal division is necessary but not sufficient:
The Seventeenth Amendment mandates the direct election of the Senate. This left the States without any voice in the Federal Government. It also opened the door for a combination of factions acting as an unrestrained majority seeking the benefit of some at the expense of others.
The keystone to the Framers' design was the vertical separation of powers between the states and the government of their creation.
Restoration of free government is impossible without repeal of the 17A.
Excellent point. Sadly, will never happen.
17th was perhaps the first abandonment of the Constitution and crack in the foundation that opened the door for so much more.......
