Zombie Moose has Alaskan Puzzled
Alaska Sporting Journal ^ | 3/16/2016 | T Smola

Posted on 03/16/2016 9:36:58 AM PDT by w1n1

The undead appearance of this animal has many scratching their heads.

A viral photo of a moose has many speculating as to what is ailing the animal in Alaska.

The photos were apparently taken in Anchorage last summer and show an animal with an almost zombie-like appearance. The moose is missing large patches of hair, exposing black and bright red patches of skin.

"That moose had been attacked by a bear by a neighbor’s house," Patricia Grenier told the Alaska Dispatch News. "(The moose) was gone and everybody thought it had died, but then it was back and it was in my neighbor's yard." Read the rest of the zombie moose story here.

Tanned hides are pretty light colored.

Maybe the earlier post about frostbite is on the money... if the bear wounds were bad enough and a lot of hair pulled off too - and the scars look very bad indeed- the wounds would have been exposed and the torn hide couldn’t hold much heat.

I’ve seen moose that were part albino, brown & white splotches. Moose molt & get their new coats every season too. There are ten times the moose in urban Alaska than you find in rural Ak, reason wolves. In urban Alaska, you see moose with bear wounds all the time.
