The ongoing crisis in Venezuela could escalate this Thursday. The opposition party is holding a rally designed to pressure the ruling socialist government to allow a referendum which could remove unpopular President Maduro from office. In a sign that his government may be preparing a crack down on the protest, President Maduro said Monday that the planned protest was part of a U.S led coup attempt. UPI reports:
It has become clear the brand and authorship of the coup detat planned for this coming Sept. 1, 2016, in Venezuela in complicity with the anti-democratic opposition and the international right, Maduros Foreign Ministry, through Venezuelas Office of the Deputy Minister for North America, said in a statement. The government of President Barack Hussein Obama, in his last years, seeks the instability of Venezuela and the region to legitimize its imperial plans against the peace and development of the people.
The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela alerts the international community and declares directly responsible the U.S. government for these conspiratorial plans, the foreign ministry added.
Venezuelas socialist government has been pushing the bogus coup claim for months. However the government has also begun expelling journalists who planned to cover the opposition rally. From Fox News Latino:
The Venezuelan government is set to expel a crew of journalists working for Al Jazeera who planned on covering Thursdays march against President Nicolás Maduro.
The detainment of the Al Jazeera journalists appears to be another sign that the Maduro administration is trying to keep tight control over how Thursdays protest will be covered across the world.
On Saturday, the government issued a decree banning all private aircraft and drones over Venezuelan territory until Sept. 5 no was explanation given, but many are connecting it to the ongoing rallies.
Maduro already has control of most of the media outlets in the country which means the truth about his response to the protest will probably only be seen on social media. Meanwhile, as the Washington Post pointed out in an editorial Monday, the Obama administration has mostly responded to the growing crisis with statements about dialogue:
The United States and most of Venezuelas neighbors have responded to this collapse of a once-prosperous oil-producing country by doing their best to ignore it. They issue feckless statements calling for dialogue, overlooking the by-now obvious reality that the regime has no intention of seriously negotiating with the opposition
Prodded by the secretary general of the Organization of American States, the Obama administration and 14 other governments issued a statement on Aug. 11 calling for the referendum to be held without delays. On Sunday, the State Department toughened its rhetoric, condemning the imprisonment of opposition leader Daniel Ceballos as an effort to intimidate and impede the Venezuelan peoples right to peacefully express their opinion September 1. The administration should be prepared to act if the regime responds violently to the protest. It should quickly punish officials involved in repression and press the OAS to move against Venezuela under its democracy charter.
With a majority of Venezuelans facing triple-digit inflation, high murder rates and the real possibility of starvation, the U.S. ought to become more active in pressing for an end to the socialist regimes grip on the country.
This thug needs to be removed by any and every means necessary. A real President would’ve sent in the CIA to remove this cancer.
Pass the popcorn.
It’s head on a stick time
Sounds like live ammo time. For the bad guys.
Looks like Cindy Sheehan and Medea Benjamin’s (Code Pinko) commie friends in Venezuela are acting like the Marxist thugs that Chavez was.
Wonder if they are going down to hug Maduro? If so, don’t forget to bring the commie asshole some toilet paper.
Where have the lady’s in pink been. i miss their 2-smoothie a day hunger strikes.
Cindy Sheehan has gone crazy the last I heard. Even the commies of Code Pink have dropped her.
Jodie Evans, the brains and money (don’t ask how she got it; the story, according to my sources, would have to be censored, and we thought that Anthony Weiner was something), is still around and causing trouble on the Left.
Too much money and not enough common sense.
Medea Benjamin, the other real hardcore red in Code Pink, still shows up at protests around the country. Now there is an organization the IRS should investigate.
Some CP people are just life’s losers and join causes because they think they will be welcomed for who they are. NOT! Just useful idiots.
I once walked ahead of the Code Pink/Benjamin protest march in DC with a sign that said, if my memory is correct, “I’m not with these Commies”.
The little red bitches never saw it but I led the parade down Pennsylvania Avenue for a block or two.
Revenge is sweet, best served with a brilliant poster sign for all to see.
“The government of President Barack Hussein Obama, in his last years, seeks the instability of Venezuela and the region to legitimize its imperial plans against the peace and development of the people.”
Uh-oh. Maduro used Obama’s middle name. We all know that is a racist dog whistle used to stir up racial hatred against the race of Islam. He’s toast. And if Obama does have anything to do with it, he will be replaced with someone worse, ala Arab Spring.
And then Obama will spend as many US tax dollars as possible to acquire Venezuela’s natural resources for himself and his cronies, and will mount a recovery effort that will be as successful as what he did for America and what the Clintons did for Haiti. Hint: the Venezuelans will have shortages of food, toilet paper, and other basic necessities for as long as socialists like Obama and the Clintons have any part of “helping” them.
Perhaps Muslim refugees from Syria will be able to help them rebuild their nation.
Maduro is far from right, but he ain’t exactly wrong either.
“Venezuelas socialist president labels planned opposition protest a coup”
A coup is the only thing that could possible save the Venezuelans.
Well there is ONE other thing: invasion followed by unconditional surrender, occupation, a full house-cleaning of the old guard and rebuilding from the ground up by a white Christian nation. But the world hasn’t seen anything remotely like that since the end of World War 2. Not even close. And it’s less likely by the year as England goes from empire to dumbpire and America’s productive population nosedives.
Hey, waitaminute...Western nations have had an awful hard time winning conflicts since then too...hmm...I wonder if there’s a connection???
