Obama Calls For Public Option, Which He Once Hedged Against
ABC News ^ | October 20, 2016 | Ali Rogin

President Barack Obama pushed today to renew focus on a so-called “public option” in the insurance marketplace -- a popular item among progressives, but one Obama publicly hedged against during negotiations leading to the passage of his signature health care law.

In a speech in Miami, Obama said the public option would “give folks more options in those places where there’s just not enough insurers to compete.”

But the president did not mention how during the 2009 negotiations over what’s now known as Obamacare the White House used the public option as a bargaining chip -- dropping it as a non-negotiable in order to get moderate Democrats, like Nebraska’s then-Sen. Ben Nelson, to vote in favor of the law.

“The public option, whether we have it or we don’t have it, is not the entirety of health care reform,” Obama said in August 2009 during a town hall-style meeting in Colorado, according to The New York Times. “This is just one sliver of it, one aspect of it.”(continued)

BS. This is what the Democrats have been aiming for from the inception of the ACA lie.

I still don’t get how anyone could accept the POS government, with the multitude of historical incompetence, corruption, and overwhelming cost overruns, gaining control of the healthcare industry. It will be game, set, and match, as they will effectively have total control over the populace...

Single Payer has always been the goal of these libtard socialists. This is just the next step.
And, still the sheeple graze on the pasture of lies, welfare, and dependence that comes from a FedGov grown well beyond its Constitutional mandate.

LOL! They actually write this like they are writing a news article. Funny they omit the speech he gave to the union people admitting he wanted single-payer healthcare.

Single Option is “necessary” because it is the system that forces everyone to pay the really heavy, middle class destroying taxation, or as it will be termed, “premiums.” It is a scheme for eliminating medical care for non-ruling class retired folks and for immobilizing the population. It also goes far to freezing social mobility as well as geographical mobility. It will resemble in its application the Jizya of Moslem countries used to prevent infidels (in America-middle class folks) from being able to afford to change location or rise economically.

There’s no such thing as a moderate Dem. They only have to play that part in more conservative areas to win and they knew this was nothing but a scam. They are a criminal organization.

No, someone from the White House staff is buddy-buddy with some ABC journalist, and is being ‘fed’ some article material to prepare the public for the spring agenda. Basically, there’s enough money to keep the current system alive through next summer probably, and at that point....either you pump more cash into it or admit it’s a failure and rush up solution-fix number two.

Here’s the thing about Medicare if it’s used for the general public. There’s going to be limits on procedures. The hospitals will add up the deal and realize that there’s just enough profit to run a full-up regular hospital, unless you get X number of people flowing through weekly. Well...in rural areas....that number won’t work. So right off the bat....most rural hospitals in the nation will downsize their services and cutback by probably 50-percent on what they do. If you live in a urban area....no worry.

I live in an urban area and I will worry.

This is ONE country, and I can never be happy when one part is screwed by the govt and I’m not because of the area i live in.

"Single option" is almost a necessity whenever you're dealing with economic sectors that fit one of the following two descriptions:

1. They cannot be left to operate under normal economic influences because those influences would likely jeopardize the existence of a nation, state, etc. Military expenditures would fit this description. While the government can open some contracts to competitive bids, it has to operate under a set of parameters -- like government ownership of assets and limits on marketing products to other "customers" -- that you'd never want in almost any other industry sector.

2. They never operated under normal economic influences anyway. Health care is like this. The argument over government control of health care is a pointless one, since individuals voluntarily gave up their right to complain about this sort of thing once they accepted third-party payments as a normal operating environment in the first place. Any industry that is built on third-party payment systems is doomed to fail, regardless of whether the "third party" is a government or an insurance company.

The only way to actually improve the delivery and availibility and cost of medicine is to completely remove the government from the field of medicine and of insurance. The only Constitutional government rolde is specified in the weights and measures clause which can be extended to true content.
