Trump Could Fuel A Nuclear Energy Boom In 2017

With Trump at the helm, sentiment gives way to practicality in the energy industry. For the vast untapped potential of the nuclear energy industry and the uranium that feeds it, this could contribute to a market-disrupting revival that no longer bows to fear and the politics of economy.

While there have been some oversupply issues keeping uranium prices down, the bigger problem has been negative sentiment rather than real fundamentals, but the Trump presidency will see through that.

Trump’s take on nuclear energy is quite simple. As he noted after the 2011 Fukushima disaster in Japan: “If a plane goes down, people keep flying. If you get into an auto crash, people keep driving.”

Now more than ever, demand for uranium appears to be assured. But more than that, it’s about to truly explode as a number of situations combine to form the new era of nuclear power.

I just wish he would push Thorium Salt reactors so that the Chinese don’t leapfrog us on that bit of tech.

Needs to be a "both/and" approach, not "either/or".

The US is teeming with untapped resources. Do something about the Federal regulation machine called the EPA and watch these resources and the jobs open up.

It will be BOOM time from coast to coast.

Well almost, minus California and the postage stamps on the East Coast.

California will catch up

They won’t want to be left in the dark (no pun intended)

You have to give liberals some time, they will come around

Restructure the NRC—then perhaps it wouldn’t take 1 to 2 decades to get anything done. Their whole point of existence since Carter, has been blockade duty.

Thorium would be good. A new revival of nuclear power with modern reactor designs would be great news.

It takes a lot of labor to build them and skilled workers to run them. Driving electricity prices down would grease the skids for an electric vehicle boom, should the market move in that direction.

Lower energy prices will also lessen the burden on businesses since the costs to literally “keep the lights on” will be lower.

TransAtomic Power - molten salt reactors.

Saw a presentation of theirs the other day and it was quite impressive.

Oops, TransAtomic Power - they're doing a 10 MW demonstration plant and have plans for a 500 MW deployment.

Build them in Vegas. A short drive to Yucca mountain.

I thought I read some time back before the election that the Chinese had managed to sustain a contained thermonuclear reaction (aka reactor) for some considerable time.

And that is not the tech to let them leap ahead with.

Agree! I think Thorium Salt could work nicely but current nuclear infrastructure should be taken into account.

I pay double your lowest rates with Duke Energy here in Florida,, being a “cost-plus” monopoly makes them arrogant enough to push an anti-solar amendment in the past election.

Liberals

not left wing radicals

Think about it

Where do you think new conservatives come from?

Liberals who have finally woken up

Like I said, just think about it for a moment

Ehhhh, ok thought about it.

No, liberals are brain dead wannabe socialists and will never turn around to become staunch conservatives and embrace conservative values. Liberals have no idea where the money comes from that runs government or who funds the government as long as they get a piece of the government pie. If they do have an idea where the money comes from, they develop schemes to strip the taxpayer of more of their money

IF they "convert" to a conservative as you speak they may act like they are a conservative, talk like they are a conservative, but that duck ain't no conservative.

Conservatives come from middle of the road Democrats. What we used to call Blue Dogs. They have fiscal conservative ways but may have slightly liberal moral leanings or the other way around.

But most conservatives learn conservative principles growing up in a conservative environment. Conservatism is not something that you just wake up one day and say, "Hey I am going to be a conservative." It is something you grow into and around. It is not an empty suit you put on every day to make you look or act the part. It is ingrained into your being, your soul.

That is why on this forum when people said Trump was now a conservative when 4 years ago he was supporting the Clintons, I said no you do not become a conservative like that. I got banished like I was in Russia or East Germany. Damn the free speech.

He may be a Republican by voter registration and by that name only. He has to prove he is a conservative and I will be the first to admit he is.
