Camp David ‘a perfect match’ for Donald Trump after Obama snub
The Washington Times ^ | December 29, 2016 | Dave Boyer

Of all the perks of the presidency that Barack Obama will miss as he leaves the White House, it’s a good bet that Camp David won’t rank high on the list.

Compared with his predecessors, President Obama has spent little downtime over the past eight years at the secluded presidential retreat in the mountains overlooking Thurmont, Maryland. In total, Mr. Obama has visited Camp David 39 times, spanning all or parts of 93 days — barely 3 percent of his two-term tenure.

By contrast, President George W. Bush made 149 visits to Camp David in two terms, covering all or parts of 487 days, said Mark Knoller, the CBS News White House reporter who keeps meticulous records of presidential comings and goings.

Mr. Obama’s visits to the retreat have been less frequent during his second term. Tentative plans to host congressional leaders at Camp David in the “fourth quarter” of his presidency never materialized as Mr. Obama’s relationship with Republican lawmakers continued to erode.

The last time Mr. Obama visited Camp David was in July, when he spent a pre-birthday weekend with friends. First lady Michelle Obama hosted a “girls’ weekend” for some of her friends in October at the retreat, which costs about $10 million per year to maintain and staff.

As in so many other ways, things may be about to change....

Trump should report constantly on what he is NOT spending.

Obama loves to squander tens of millions of white Christian’s tax dollars. And be photographed.

It’s being funded whether anyone is there or not. I suppose he could close it or sell it.

Ten million to maintain and staff?

Sell it.

Bozo and his wife preferred lengthy vacations in Hawaii, Martha’s Vineyard, and other elite locales, largely paid for at taxpayer expense.

GW Bush by contrast spent Christmases at Camp David and did not return to Texas until Dec 26 every year in order that Secret Service and other staff could enjoy Christmas Day with their own families.

Bush was generally a nice guy and tried to be thoughtful.

Meanwhile, the current first lady says she no longer has hope, as she will need to rely on her husband to pay for her expensive vacations from now on.

It’s actually very nice, but no, it’s not bling bling.

Right—probably not enough servants for the Mooch. I would love Camp David. I love old, rustic but lovely places in a pretty setting.

It will be nice to see Trump make a speech from the Oval Office. I guess that was ‘too traditional’ for Muslim Hussein.

Trump can replace that with photographs of him working in the Oval Office

Compared to many other federal expenditures, that’s a tiny drop in the bucket. Plus, it saves money by being very secure for the first family.

Trump should hold a summit with Bibi and Putin right away. Let everyone know there’s a new sheriff in town.

It’s a retreat for real men, naturally Obama wouldn’t like it. There is nobody to pay attention to him there

My mom lived in Thurmont for a long time. There was an historic restaurant/motel there called The Cozy that showcased pics of Camp David and celebrities and Presidents who had stayed and dined there. Sadly, Cozy was torn down last year. Used car lot now in its place.

And too cheap, they can’t have fun without running up the tab. Just because they can.

I have a hunch regular people would find Camp David, as staffed for a president, very comfortable and charming.

It is a shame our leaders become so jaded to the perks of office and distant from normal America

So, Camp David costs almost $28,000 per day to operate...which, was only used during Obama admin less than an average 12 days per yr...

Yes, costs skyrocketed each of those dozen days per year, but enough to average costs for both use/non-use days to about $200,000 per week???
