New 12 Gauge Laughs at Gun Control Law
Am Shooting Journal ^ | 4/25/2017 | E Nestor

When is a shotgun not a shotgun, according to U.S. gun laws?
When it's the incredible Fostech Origin 12 SBV "Firearm." New for 2017, the Origin 12 SBV will not be restricted by the expected gun control laws, because it's technically 'not a shotgun. It doesn't have to be registered because of the fact that it is not intended to be fired from the shoulder.

Gun control laws in general are absolutely a waste of time. Case in point: the absolutely brilliant Fostech Origin 12 SBV "Firearm."

At first look without a closer examination this weapon looks like a NFA registered weapon. It has a stock, only 8" of barrel and is really short. This is where the nose is thumbed against gun control laws. That "stock" is actually a completely legal arm brace that also can fold. Overall length is over 26" total. The key here is not to shoulder this weapon but either shoot it with two hands or with only a cheek weld. That way the whole package and you stay legal with current ATF laws. Interesting huh? Check out the Fostech Origin 12 SBV footage here.

Pest control....

How is this different from a sawed-off shotgun?

It would be great for taking out a nest of rattlesnakes.

Yeah, they say that but are they going to back you up when the ATF arrests you?

Apropos, for sure. Just today, the ATF reversed its decision against shouldering stabilizer braces.

I don’t actually want one but the various .410 revolvers do have some real merit.

What I really wish I had is one of those double barrel shotguns carried by Michael Corleone’s bodyguards when he was in Sicily.

A good pump is technically better but still the lupara is what I want.

The sighting apparatus in the .gif or video provided lends itself as evidence of “shoulder fire”. If the sights were not present, or oriented in such a way that it were useful in a non-shoulder fire posture, then the contrary would be a sustainable argument. I’d tread with caution ...

A guy could buy quite a few Remington 870’s for that kind of money.

Can it accept standard 2 3/4” and 3”.

Shooting the 3” can cause some pain. I couldn’t imagine rapid firing those.

That "stock" is actually a completely legal arm brace that also can fold.

Ooops. Not legal in MA. But then, in Massachusetts, everything is illegal.

Problem with the .410 revolvers is the rifling spins the shot cup and the centrifugal force throws the shot into a wide pattern.

Buddy had a Taurus Judge that couldn't reliably hit a man size target at 5 yds with #4.

This uses regular shot shells?

All loads operate the semi-auto feature?

Or find a Winchester Model 97 or Model 12, which have no disconnector and can make for some Rifleman-style volleys.

I think most real-world defensive shootings happen at ranges less than 5 yards, in which case the ability to create multiple holes in the bad guy is a feature.
