In Europe, Europe Day is an annual celebration of peace and unity in Europe. There are two separate designations of Europe Day: 5 May for the Council of Europe, and 9 May for the European Union (EU). The latter is the EU's flag day and has a greater visibility.
The Council of Europe's day reflects its own establishment in 1949, while the European Union's day is also known as Schuman Day and celebrates the historical declaration by French foreign minister Robert Schuman in 1950. Europe Day is one of a number of European symbols designed to foster unity among Europeans.

It'll be sporting a crescent moon before long.
How to turn good news into fake news.
A travesty. R,
Today is also “Victory Day” in Russia to celebrate the anniversary of the capitulation of Nazi Germany.
also the 631st anniversary of the Treaty of Windsor. A much better and far more durable document than the creation of the EU.
Londoners before the refugee crisis.
Which historically leads to Europe Day.
I wonder if they will still be celebrating EUrope Day, one thousand years hence...
Europe has been at peace for about 50 years now. But it is the United States of America that kept it so.
Likely the reason the Bilderbergers invented 'Europe Day' in the first place.
Peace and unity, eh? Starting with the French Revolution, count how many years Europe has been free from war in the last two centuries. Then come and talk to me about this hollow virtue signalling.
I was glad that you reminded me it was the big Soviet Victory Day. As it so happens, I live on Stralau across the Spree River from Treptower Park where the main memorial to Soviet soldiers who died in WW2 is. Putin was there at least one time placing flowers. I been to the memorial a few times, it’s impressive, and have past it a hundred times (Treptower Park is huge).
I always wanted to go visit there on the big day though. So after you reminded me, I was going out the door and my wife asked me: where are you going. I told her: out. She said: it’s raining. I said: darn just before there was sun. Turns out I didn’t go, because not only was there rain but it quickly got cold and dark.
Later the weather cleared. I got on my bicycle and went to the mall on the other side of the park at about 7pm when a lot of people speaking Russian were streaming out of the place. There was elderly gentleman playing what sounded like Russian music on an accordion that I never seen before. I stopped and dropped the 5 euros I was going to spend earlier on flowers for the memorial into his basket.
I’ll go next year! (it’s been like 9 years living here)
and have past it a hundred times
I read they had speeches, food and music.

I got on my bicycle and went to the mallI wanted to get a fidget spinner but they didn't have any. :(
I resisted the temptation to buy ice cream and got yogurt.

Yep! Many here do not get the meaning of the EU. It is a vehicle of freedom and peace.
