The problem with your analysis is this: if the left were to take their head out of the sand, they would (will) come to the conclusion that there is no way to save their coalition. The left is a coalition of groups that have very little in common with each other, and, in many cases, despise each other. There have been two critical components in their rise to power. First, Barack Obama was someone that every group in the clown car we call the Democrats, saw as theirs (blacks, hispanics, feminists, gays). Second, after Ronald Reagan, the Republican Wing of the Democrat Party solidified control over the Republican Party as a whole, meaning that they had essentially neutered any potential opposition to the left.
The problem now, is that their coalition is collapsing, and, secondly, the thing that the left relied upon (the infiltration of the Republican party by members of the left’s coalition), is in very real jeopardy. The Republican Wing of the Democratic Party had no choice but to put their cards on the table, and they failed (barring some unforeseen, and real, scandal, which would put either the 25th or impeachment back on the table).
Absent a compliant Republican wing, the left’s coalition is simply too small, too fragmented, and too regional to have any real potential for resurgence, no matter how often they glance at their navels. The left has two basic choices: capitulate, and go back to fighting over scraps; or, second, push for impeachment/25th regardless of political cost. But the second option cannot occur if the Republican Wing of the Democratic Party capitulates. And that appears to be what they are doing.
So the left can do or say whatever they want. They are getting politically trounced, and there is nothing that they can do about it. The 2018 midterms will be a resounding Trump victory, and the 2020’s will follow in a similar manner. The Republican Wing of the Democrat Party will shrink, over time, and the rest of the Democratic Party will fight each other like the orcs they are.
