Economy Of Force
The recent deaths of 4 US Army Special Forces Soldiers in Niger have prompted questioning, some legitimate and some merely political posturing. Two articles, one in The American Conservative (What Are US forces Doing in Niger Anyway?) and the other in Politico (Niger Attack Fuels New Push for War Vote) ask two very cogent questions: “Why are we there?” and “What is Congress’ role?”
The purpose of this article isn’t to focus on the hypocrisy of these questions coming at this time. However, I would be remiss if I failed to point out that this particular mission originated under the previous administration. During Obama’s tenure, there appeared to be very little pushback (except perhaps from Rand Paul) about Congress’ role and authority to authorize foreign military adventures. Rather, the effort from Congress appeared to encourage such (I’m talking to you, Senator/Captain McCain).
Yeah, the “smart” just oozes from this policy.
And of course, smart does not involve ground troops on Africa where we have no interest, can easily shut them out of the USA, and where no good result is possible.
Civilization eluded Africa despite the full military, diplomatic, economic, and cultural efforts of the Brits, the French, the Germans, the Dutch, the Belgians, etc.
And now our retarded government and generals have decided that a few A-teams will do anything there but get Americans killed and breed new enemies.
I find it interesting nation leaders and news organizations would even question where US troops are.....they all ‘beg, cry out and plead’ for the US to come in in almost every nation not to mention put our bases in their countries to protect them.
Canada of all people have no room voice an opinion on where we go or otherwise. You can bet if they run into trouble...which they will assuredly do in the near future...we’ll be the first ones they cry out!!
There are no US interests in Niger.
NONE.
The fact that US Troops are there is a crime against the American people.
Still can’t figure out why the FBI had to go investigate this.
They're all debtor nations if Africa... and always will be....for decades upon decades revenue and helps have poured into that Continent with barely any getting to the actual people.....that is not going to change. Same goes for our black communities here in the states. For what ever reasons the 'will' and 'know how' to escape their victimhood is not there...I don't expect that to change either.

Niger has uranium mines. They used to be French owned, maybe they still are. (Just a guess but those mines probably have rare earth elements associated with them too!)
We’re also in Somalia, though it is rarely mentioned... Somalia likewise has uranium mines and a recently discovered source of more uranium.

Plus Somalia geographically sit across a major shipping choke point.
Niger is where Libya obtained some of its uranium. Right out from under the nose of the French. Andits guest scientists were Iraqi scientists.
We’re in Somalia, too. Iran has made a few attempts to get its uranium from Somalia.
And Russia is likewise attempting to get into developing uranium mines there, where some high grade ore is actually at or near the surface.
And with Iran in Yemen there’s another critical choke point problem.
