Former first lady Laura Bush applauded Melania Trump on Wednesday for her work in the role since President Trump's inauguration.
"I just think she's doing a lovely job," Bush told CNN. "She's a beautiful woman. She's a wonderful representative for the United States."
Bush, former President George W. Bush's wife, said she's talked to Trump and visited the White House for tea, during which she got to catch up in the Diplomatic Reception Room with some of the permanent employees who helped her during her husband's two terms.
Bush added she wished the current first couple "the very, very best."
"I know what it's like to live there," she said. "I know how difficult every decision is and what the scrutiny is by everyone that has an opinion, every single person has an opinion on the people that live there, and I'm certainly aware of that."
Bush, who gave the interview to promote her advocacy work for the U.S.-Afghan Women's Council, also addressed the accusations of sexual assault levied at her father-in-law, former President George H. W. Bush.
"Well, I'm just sad that we've come to this," Bush said. "That was something that was very, very innocent that he's been accused of. But I know he would feel terrible. He would never in any way hurt anybody."

Even if GWB and Laura get chummy, Trump will most likely never forget the dirty, back stabbing nature of that clan.

Laura Bush always has excellent manners. A lot of democrats should take lessons from her.

Laura has always been classy. It was known that her detail was the best job to draw for the Secret Service. Thank the Lord at least one Bush is acting with grace.
