WELCOME TO THE WONDERFUL WORLD O' DIABEETUS (blood glucose monitor recommendations plz)
12/5/17 | marty_f

Well, your ollll' marty was recently diagnosed with early stage Type II Diabeetus.

Doc prescribed pills that sound like some Yankee RINO's name: "Metformin."

I'm doing all the Intarweb research that I can on the topic but I'd like to hear FReepers' personal takes on what to look for in a blood glucose monitor.

I figure if I'm going to be using this monitor for awhile it should be a good one. The one the Doc suggested -- that my insurance would most readily pay for -- doesn't get good reviews at all ("wildly inaccurate readings").

Your input please!

So was I. No big deal. Just watch what you eat, leave the bread and sweets alone and you’ll be fine...............

Can’t help with your question, but I clicked on this because I just found out I’m prediabetic. Maybe we should have a thread where people can post advice, recipes, etc. for diabetes and prediabetes.

Realign your chakras and bring your chi into the center. You don't have diabetus, you have an imbalance between directed and undirected energy in your hidden castle.

Or something.

Blood glucose meters are like razors. They sell you the razor inexpensively then bleed (sorry, pun intended) you dry when buying blades.

More important is to beware of the cost of the measuring strips.

I've found the Walmart “ReliOn” meter to be just fine, and the replacement strips are quite affordable.

On line price at the moment 100 strips $17.88
Accucheck brand is $69.95 for a 100 count.

The ReliOn “prime” meter is $9.00

Good luck.

You are CORRECT!

I suggest that you watch some Joe Rogan podcasts on YouTube and the Keto Diet and Intermittent Fasting

You CAN do this!!

I do everything I can to stay out of the clutches of the pharma-medical complex. Here are a couple of links if you are at all inclined to stay off the medical grid:

Good luck and God bless.

Dear Marty,

The meter I have is an Accu-Chek Aviva Plus. I have had others, and every time you get a new can of test strips, you had to calibrate the meter wit using test samples that were supplied. With the ‘Plus’, you don’t need to do that step. This meter works for me, and the replacement battery is in the watch battery section of the store.

Yes, for right now, watch what you eat like a hawk. I do not know what your ‘number’ was that tipped off the dr., mine was ‘140’. I had a diabetic episode, slurred speech, loose chicken legs and all, at that number.

Good luck.

Surprisingly it was the el-cheapo meter from Walmart that was the most accurate and cost effective.

Look at the Relion brands from Walmart

Low carb diets will effectively stop it from progressing, but you need to look at the two studies to illuminate ways to permanently reverse it, allowing your prior ways of eating again.

Walmart “ReliOn” meters, pokers and supplies work just fine for me. Good quality at best price.

Type 1 here. My insurance covers supplies, in theory only. The co-pay is more than I can find the stuff for online. The strips can be ridiculous, especially when you’re testing 2-4 times a day or more. After messing with various models, I went with Wal-Mart’s Reli-on meter and strips. It reads a little lower than my other meters, but the strips are 1/3 the price. Once you know what is normal for you, you can tell trends, even if it’s a little off.

Read "wheat belly:
Read "Younger next year
Read "The Bible"
Walk quickly 20 mins 2-3 times a day.
Buy a veridesk...standdont sit.
Eat fruit, lots and lots of veggies, salads at lunch, and
if you drink alcohol, switch to scotch....low GI.

If you get under 25 BMI, your pancreas won't burn out in 5 years. (and thus stay off insulin)

My father inlaw spends 1500/month to control his diabetes...no weight loss, no diet, eats like shit.....and he'll die soon.

1500/MO! to keep him alive!

Bite the bullet...make a life change.....
Oh, and get a sleep study and CPAP...that will help too.
