This is a link for those people who still want Windows 10 FREE Upgrade.
As if my life isn’t heavily monitored enough. I’ll pass and stick with Win7Pro. When Microsoft stops supporting it with security updates, I’ll move to LINUX.
It looks like this offer is only for folks who use “assistive technologies.”
All you have to do is say that you need them.
I just paid $130 for windows 10 because my window 8.1 took a total POS crapola on me... crash, lock up... Oh it’s not the hard drive, Linux Ubuntu works fine on the other partition.

I’m on Linux Mint Cinnamon. Not missing windows at all now. Some Freeper claimed it was just for hobbyists, but I ain’t no hobbyist, I’m using it because it allows me to work without the Microsoft headaches. No viruses, no fees, easy upgrades, stable, runs fine on older machines, etc.
That’s what I’m using too. I had the hardest time upgrading both Firefox and Chromium browsers which I needed to do because a lot of things stopped working on the previous versions.
I finally figured out how to update the libnss3 TOOLs using the Synaptic Software Manager. More like stumbled on it. Now the Brave browser even works and it never did before. I found that doing any updating of any software is best and many times, needed to be done through the SSM, to make it work right.
Windows isn’t going anywhere though. Lots of gamers still need it if they like playing on the PC’s and in the corporate world it’s still king even though versions of Linux will work better for free (in some cases) with all the free open source office software. Change is hard for some folks though so they plug along with a slower, less reliable, system instead.
The new Firefox 57 version is a world of difference. They say it’s based on the same basic platform as the Chrome browser. Some of the old addons don’t work though but all the FR upgrades do.
I am also using Linux Mint Cinnamon on my desktop and laptop. I just used the update manager to upgrade the desktop from 18.2 to 18.3 and the entire process took less than 10 minutes and one reboot.
Do it sooner. I am a Winders coder. Love Linux. It is so flexible.
I don’t... and the upgrade worked smoothly about two weeks ago... took about 1.5 hours.
No thanks. I back peddled to XP from Win7. Just love it. I installed a fresh copy after a hard drive wipe and did not allow it to install updates. Installed an antivirus. Works just great with Firefox.
I’ve blocked the Firefox upgrades because I don’t want to give up NoScript and the various other protective add-ons. Of course, they’ve intentionally slipped in code that makes the older versions freeze up and run slow, so I’ve pretty much switched over to Brave, anyway.
Mozilla seems to be on a suicide run.
My workaday Lenovo ThinkPad runs Linux Mint with the Cinnamon desktop, Serena release. Rock solid, no issues. Still get the occasional b lue screen when I swap out SSDs for Win 10
We run thinkpads here, mostly 10+ years old. I buy them off of ebay for $1-200 and put ubuntu on them. The kids run dual boot with win10. I had them on win7pro but we bought them xbox controllers which need win10. The controllers are sitting there collecting dust because they were so used to just using the keyboard. I just got rid off dual boot on mine because I started using virtualbox to run win within ubuntu for the two win only programs I use.
Linux/Ubuntu is just so nice. No searching the internet for some little utility that’s apt to come complete with malware. Once upon a time download.cnet.com(originally download.com) was a safe place to get little programs for free or real cheap but not in several years. Meanwhile, you can pretty much find a program to do whatever you want and get it from official ubuntu repositories so you know it’s safe and FREE.

I tried several flavors of ubuntu and finally settled on kubuntu.
