In a pigs eye.

We will be lucky to hold even at this rate.

2 to 1 turnout difference.

Forget Moore, he pulled a Hillary and believed he was entitled to win so he took a vacation on the last few days.

It seems like every time I read some of these threads I keep encounter individuals that see a "reality" that is completely different from what I saw.

Moore won statewide election in 2012 with over 1 million votes. He lost about 400,000 of that support in this years election.

Could it be that the Republican party treating him like a child molesting rapist might have something to do with it? Could it be having Alabama's other Senator, Richard Shelby, go on the air and urge everyone to "write in" someone else's name?

The race was sabotaged by the establishment, probably down to the dirt the was dug up about Moore.

I should not be surprised. The blame for this disaster is the Republican side of the Washington establishment. They torpedoed Moore. They didn't want him in because he would have probably sounded the alarm about the behind the scenes deal making.

He would have been a thorn in their side, and they would rather have a non trouble making Democrat.

Hope you don’t mean to say I am surrendering. :) Explicitly said the law should be followed.

I will be surprised if there are 20K fraudulent votes found. Or 20K votes for Moore withheld in a car trunk.

Could be.

I wanted Moore to win. I think he got the shaft in the media. No proof. But in the end, the voters have to decide.

If the voters decided, and it appears they did, we need to learn from the experience.

How about an honest answer to a question?

Did you dislike Moore before the election? I keep seeing a lot of people who hated him anyways brushing off the backstabbing by the party, because they really didn't want Moore up there anyway.

When I first heard they were going to allow the destruction of the records, my first thought was they are going to try to steal it.

Why on earth would they halt an order demanding records be preserved?

The democrats would be fighting tooth and nails for their candidate (however flawed) to get him elected, even if it required legal actions, recounts, court actions, etc. Many on the conservative side just give up and think they will do better with a different candidate. I saw this happen here in Virginia... and now we are solid blue.

I’m from Alabama. I don’t know why the ballot was arranged the way it was.

The only question is “How many votes were cast for one Straight Party Voting, then the candidate for the other party was selected?”

I don’t know what Alabama’s rules for ballot counting are. Does “Straight Party” override the individual selections? Do individual selections override “Straight Party”.

Recounting should not be that huge a deal. We have optical scanners. You can put a ballot through a machine about every 3 seconds.

All that being said, I don’t expect 21,000 votes to be made up with that recount OR when absentee and military ballots are counted.

All of that contributed to his failed senate bid. But, Moore is the man that could have changed things, look at Trump, nobody on the GOPe wanted him to win, heck some even supported Hillary, but Trump still won, even with 99.9% of the media against him, the polls against him, the GOPe against him, 24/7 he’s a perv, pedo, tax cheat, rapist, P2$$y grabber, mafia boss, employer of illegal immigrants, thousand of accusations, 24.7, end yet Trump pulled off a historic victory. Why? Trump fought for it tooth and nail while Hillary was taking it easy ‘cause in her mind, she had it in the bag.

Moore’s campaign was more like Hillary’s (minus the ideology) then Trump’s. Moore did not GOTV, did not spend last precious campaign days in strong holds and close strong holds getting out the vote. The democrats did, and they won.

We can sit around and blame the media, the deep state, etc but in the end of the day, it is up to Moore to win this. I don’t live in Alabama, but boots on the ground and GOTV would have won this for him. This is all my opinion. But on the other hand 2018 is not too far away, I see bigger gains in 2018, so Moore’s loss is not necessary a game changer. And let the democrats get over confident, maybe they will pull another Wellstone funeral and piss off the electorate, they still have plenty of time to do that yet.

Roy Moore ran a terrible campaign. Disappearing for wide swaths of time and spending the weekend before the election out of state (because people already knew him he said) was ridiculous. Yes, the GOP hurt him too by pulling funding (Shelby’s write in campaign alone cost him enough votes).

After doing some research:

It appears that voter intent has been determined in cases where the straight ticket choice and the candidate choice differ, is that the candidate choice rules. I found this on a couple court decisions, none specifically concerned with Alabama.

During the day (and before any votes were counted) the Secretary of State of Alabama, a Republican, said this is how the votes would be counted if the voter contradicted himself.

So, Roy Moore has to hope that a lot of people wrote his name in (even though it was on the ballot) and there are still a lot of overseas and provisional votes for him, yet to be counted. These things seem impossible.

Documenting voter fraud (e.g., people brought in from out of state who were not qualified to vote in Alabama) seems another possibility. But, this is almost impossible to prove in real time.

The man lost by 1.5 percent of the vote. This is a big margin from the standpoint of challenging an election.

I used to be paranoid about those kinds of ballots. I figured I’d vote straight Republican and some counter would then mark down John Kerry on my ballot. I started just voting for each candidate individually to prevent this kind of thing.
