The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration, which oversees the Internal Revenue Service, reports that in fiscal 2016 the IRS closed four cases in which IRS employees were found to have violated a law governing their behavior toward taxpayers and that these violations included “harassing and abusing taxpayers and using obscene and profane language.”
In 1998, Congress enacted a law imposing restrictions on the way that IRS employees could treat taxpayers.
As explained by the IG, this included a prohibition on an IRS employee contacting a taxpayer at “unusual or inconvenient times,” contacting the taxpayer directly if the taxpayer “has obtained representation from a person authorized to practice before the IRS,” or contacting the taxpayer at the “taxpayers place of employment, if the IRS knows or has reason to know that such communication is prohibited.”

Yeah.
It came from the *Fresno* office in 2013. I straightened it out but was rather suspicious about where the false tip came from.
Anyone else here get one back around then?

I have to tell this story because we had a hard time believing it when it happened. Back in the summer, our CPA sent out some report late, causing a penalty to us. One of the owners of my company (we have a small family business, since 1976) told the CPA that THEY were paying the penalty because they are paid to properly handle our taxes and reports & they caused the penalty.
BUT we got a letter from the IRS saying because we had an excellent record, they were WAIVING the penalty this time, etc. If I hadn’t seen the letter myself, I would not have believed him.
