More than 25 years after being locked away for a killing their lawyers say they didn't commit, three former soldiers are free on bail and preparing to go home to spend the holidays with their families.

Mark Jason Jones, Kenneth Eric Gardiner and Dominic Brian Lucci were in their early 20s when they were convicted of murder in the Jan. 31, 1992, slaying of Stanley Jackson in Savannah, Georgia. Prosecutors said the crime was racially motivated. The three former soldiers are white, and Jackson was black. Calculate Pay Now. Find Out what Your Next Promotion Could be Worth Click Here!

The Georgia Supreme Court last month ruled that state prosecutors improperly withheld evidence that would have helped their defense, and the men were entitled to a new trial.

No physical evidence tied them to the killing.

Eyewitness James White, who testified at trial, later admitted that he hadn’t gotten a good look at the shooters and was pressured to identify the soldiers at trial.

A female Army officer testified at trial that Jones had told her on base earlier in the day that he was going to Savannah that night to shoot someone, saying, “I got a black guy up there I got to get.” But she changed her story several times, and Jones hadn’t even been on base that day because he was on leave for his wedding.

Nice if they added some detailed background to that. It's shouldn't be too easily dismissed just off hand. The story doesn't give much detail about the gun either. Was a gun in their possession or were they just charged with a gun charge because the victim was gunned down.

I’ve never heard of this case.

To think that 3 men wouldn’t have at least one impeccable alibi probably not helpful? (I’m assuming)

Maybe there was an alibi that the prosecutors suppressed. Something like that, if they’re having to let them out.

Prosecutors who withhold exculpatory evidence should be put against a wall and shot

25 years

I remember this case

A black man is killed in Savannah every few days in a small city

Top ten US. Murder rate

WOW
3 guys, 25 years each, down the drain. Prayers that they can put something of their lives back together after this.

I read the whole article and other sources

Three key points

It was a racial lynching pretty much

The woman who said they referred to needing to go “get” a black man changed her story repeatedly and Jones was not on the base the day she said he said that

There were police reports after they were in custody of a car with white men in it driving though some project displaying firearms and making raicially based threats

The victim was shit with an AK Round

did they have an AK OR SKS on them at time of arrest or were they found with such ammo?

25 is a long but

It is possible they were each other’s alibi, but with all 3 being charged, there goes their alibi.

Believe it or not they are still pretty young at mid 40s

If they put their minds to it they could do it all

Woman wife family

And I suspect cash will be coming down their road with proper legal advice

Unless they is enough damning evidence still out there or the DA is hell bent to preserve reputation at all costs

And being Savannah it’ll still be mostly white but they will be cucked by race etc

“The victim was shit with an AK Round...”
That seems harsh to me.
