The Davis-Bacon Act of 1931 and the Breakdown of the Black Family
American Thinker ^ | 12/22/17 | Antonio R. Chaves

Conservatives tend to regard the growing trend of single-parent families as an issue of personal responsibility, but what if the liberals who blame society are partly right? What if they can point their finger to a bill sponsored by two Republicans and signed into law by a Republican president?

Prior to the 1930s, the labor force participation rate for black Americans was roughly equal to that of whites. Following passage of the first federal minimum wage in 1931, these rates started to diverge, and from the 1950s to the present, national black unemployment has remained at double the rate for whites. This is not surprising: Minimum wage restrictions discourage businesses from hiring workers who are regarded as “less marketable” due to either their lack of experience or societal prejudice.

No one knows what it is. A public advocation of it’s elimination will start the discussion. Then we will learn. If you build it....

You can read the (ghostwritten) autobiography of Sen. James J. Davis (R-Pa.)--the Davis in Davis-Bacon--online at the Internet Archive. Incidentally, Pat Toomey now sits in his seat.

If [income] equality is so important to progressives, why is the right side of the graph dominated by states that have voted Democratic since 1992?

The Dems could give a rat's ass about income equality. What they have done is put blacks into a position of dependency on gov't support by increasing payments to the poor in general. Since 2008, transfer payment (e.g., welfare, rent subsidies, food stamps, etc.) increased over 31% while payments to the "working poor", like Social Security, increase by less than 2%. With programs like free cell phones, tell me politicians aren't buying votes with our tax dollars.

Also, will someone please tell me why income equality is so damn important to libs? If they get their wish and income is perfectly distributed, tell me what you call that kind of economic system. Would it be Pure Communism, which has never existed anywhere? It's never worked and history is strewn with the wreckage of those who tried, yet the Leftists want it for the US. Stupid...

Shumer, et al, complain that the recent tax package it dooming our children to a future of pain to pay off the debt. Really? Instead of you asshats in DC just looking at the revenue side of the debt, how about cutting all your stupid "re-election spending" and concentrate on what's best for us...not you? You all need to be tossed out of office.

“Shumer, et al, complain that the recent tax package it dooming our children to a future of pain to pay off the debt.”

It may be that this only changes when the elites realize there are far too few “Americans” left to pay off anything. How many Americans even have children anymore, where this would be a concern? While it was a news story a few weeks back how many of Europe’s leaders were childless (and therefore indifferent to the Muslimization of Europe), the simple truth is that many Americans now take the same position.

Not entirely. It certainly accelerated things but I think that the rise of angry race radicalism under Cultural Marxist influence in a decade of increased sexual bondage that has been called “liberation” was the necessary acid.

On one level you can’t give yourself over to feelings of bitterness, pride and entitlement and expect to find many that are willing to work things through.

On another level you can’t expect folks to continue to value what has become cheap in the same way before it became cheap, when they looked down on people of loose morals. At least not in the same way.

Then there’s things like that it was a decade where commitment and fidelity weren’t high on many people’s lists anyway. The 60s and 70s, at least among those who most participated in their excesses, seems like they were survived (if later escaped).

Thats assuming someone escapes them rather than subsides into their influence.

Charles Murray’s amazing...

Trump’s looking at a new welfare reform... this might become current all over again.
