That’s great for South America and Germany and I wish them the best.
As long as they don’t build a passage through the Darien Gap.
Wouldn’t put too much credence in an Armstrong publication.
American exceptionalism! After a bitter and bloody civil war we did this. Completed 1869.
Maybe the Swiss can carry them.
Don’t have the ability to post a map on this project hope somebody does. There’s been a previous posting on this.
Don’t ask the US to contribute. We’ve already done more than anyone else.
Sort defeats the purpose of a canal. You still have to off-load and reload ships. Fine for transport to the interior, but I don’t see the purpose as an inter-ocean connector.
This project makes absolutely no sense.
Is it standard gauge? If it is, I’d love to see a standard gauge railroad connecting Mexico (and in affect US and Canada) down Central America (connecting with the KCS Panama Canal Railroad) to the railroad. It would be nice for getting people jobs..
This is a consultants hallucination and will never happen. Germany has not one submarine that can put to sea and only 12 Battle tanks and could not stop a troop of cub scouts coming across it’s border. This deal will cost trillions.
The US must recoup the 5 trillion it blew in Afghanistan and IraQ. And, it’s highly unlikely they will rope Trump into this.
Just for unavailability of THIS MUCH capital alone, This deal will never happen and that’s before you get into the enormous challenges of building something like this starting with “security”. Who’s going to provide that? How much will this INCREASE the cost of goods? “Corruption” alone in these countries is a way of life. And, on and on................
Of course, that last one is pretty free-enterprise, so maybe socialists won't like it, but still; a modern railroad with limited access rights seems very 1% in nature.
Are they going deport their ‘extra’ immigrants to S. America and send them express rail to the U.S. open border?
Longer than that. Armstrong prophesied that Nazi Germany would win WW-II.
After everyone had forgotten about that false prophecy, the old man Armstrong along with his playboy son Garner Ted who were supposed to be the two witnesses prophesied that The Great Tribulation would begin in 1972, then in 1975, then the old man and his son parted company, then it would happen very soon if people would stop sinning and send more money, then the old man died.
Then a new cult leader named Gerald Flurry arose claiming to be the divinely ordained successor to Armstrong and who regards Armstrong as worthy of worship said The Great Tribulation would happen about 10 years ago... except it didn't which makes Gerald R. Flurry also a false prophet.
Crossing the Andes would be interesting. La Paz is about 12,000’ in elevation.
Better they build it east to west than south to north.
Umm ... the USA finished the same railroad 148 years ago.
Just goes to show that most Marxists (e.g., Evo Morales) basically have their heads in the sand.
I bet that South American railroad will be as profitable as Jerry Brown’s bullet train.
