I found Hornady .17 HMR for 8.60 p/box-o-fifty last week. I haven’t seen it under $11.00 in a decade.

Wouldn't a fly swatter be cheaper to kill what a .17 caliber will kill?

A 20 grain .17 HMR has a muzzle energy of 340 joules. A .22 LR has a muzzle energy of 141-259 joules, and .22LR have killed a lot of humans. Non +P .38 special ammo is around 305-358 joules.

A head shot with .17 HMR will put down any human. I wouldn't want to be hit with one, anywhere on my body.

I have a steel target that is rated for .22. I shot it with my .17 hmr and it punched hole right through the 1/4” thick steel.

You haven’t lived unless you’ve hunted ground squirrels with .17HMR. Almost as much fun as bouncing bunnies at 100 yards. ;-)
