[Draft open letter in response to Debbies advocacy for and leadership of Helping Heros Heal]
Momma Lee, this open letter is intended to support your efforts and thank you publicly for all you do for us This topic has become a rapidly increasingly growing passion of mine for the past 10+ years. More so in the last 5 or so years.
As one who battles depression, sleep disorder, headaches (which prior to our conversation yesterday I attributed to caffeine/Dr. Pepper addiction) PTSD (or whatever the latest terminology is.
When I accidentally called you yesterday because your cellphone number was mislabeled in my phone I never imagined it would turn into the nearly 1 hour conversation that it did.
I want to say both personally and professionally that I have so valued our friendship. unfortunately, like many of us our friendship was born out of the combat tragic loss of your son, Navy Seal Marc Alan Lee in August 2006.
While I never personally met or served with Marc on any missions. I was on my way to Iraq shortly after Marc was killed.
Marcs legacy lives on because of your efforts and I will never forget the correspondence we exchanged during the first of 2 combat tours in Iraq (2007).
Thank you for giving so much of your time to explain the potential benefits of hyperbaric treatment and I really pray that pursuing this treatment option for myself will not only prove personally helpful but also contribute to the ongoing research and ultimately lead to VA funding of this treatment option which according to the VA requires further clinical study before it can be a broadly prescribed treatment option.
I am thrilled that you are considering allowing me to be considered as a candidate for hyperbaric treatment clinical study. Mostly because I know all too well the Stigma associated with Military and Law Enforcement Professionals who recognize the need for help and fail to seek the help because of fear of stigma.
My very good friend and recently retired Florida State University Deputy Chief of Police Jim Russell is one of the leading champions of Stigma Fighters.
Thank you again for all you do in memory of Marc . So many of us have been blessed to call you Momma Lee.
Recognizing that I am not the most talented writer I would like some FReeper input before publishing this open letter
You go, dude! A close friend of mine is a 99.99% disabled SEAL who struggles with PTSD. How you guys do what you do is beyond me - I’m an aviator - but we’ve got your backs.
And your letter is OUTSTANDING!!
Thank you for the kind words. Just writting this draft was somewhat ther·a·peu·tic itself. 5am ugh. Need to get another hour of sleep thanks for residing my draft letter.
Grammatical flaws add to the sincerity of a letter, IMHO. I wouldn’t change ONE THING. You have earned the right to make mistakes. Hate to admit it, but I was an English Lit major. Glad to finally be able to put it to some good use.
Great point. I wrote it in 5 mins or less without a single proofread because I knew it was just a draft. Given your point I think cleaning up my horrible grammar would definitely cause anyone who knows me personally to think I did not write it myself. Lol
Your grammar is superior to 95% of college freshmen. I know, because I taught college (OK, trade school) freshmen - and concentrated on basic grammar, sentence and paragraph construction, etc. Don’t sell yourself short - just say what you mean the best way you can. You’re on point.
My communication skills are most verbal and practical demonstration etc. Probably a result of 10 years as a Drill Sergeant. Lol
You would have been a superior Drill Sergeant! But glad I didn’t go that route, I probably wouldn’t have survived...
Thank you kindly I am humbled by those words. I often come across to others as being overly upset about things that are not that serious or life threatening. I can only pray that they understand my passion is to provide training that while not difficult for anyone - not under stress I want to create a stressful environment in order to give those Soldiers the confidence that they CAN perform simple tasks - shoot - move - communicate etc under high stress life threatening conditions.
free grammarly will tell you when to put in the dots and you can still keep your own accent because you can ignore changes.
I’ve read a lot about HBOT and pray it will help in your healing. I LOVE neuroscience and keep up with new stuff. That could be a full time job in itself.
If you have friends who also need help...for free, check out Cohen Veterans Network.
Have a blessed day!
