I dont know who originally posted it here on FR but I sure appreciate having been done. Someone had posted a story about how to Depecha Mode is selling more concert tickets than any of the even current bands. It happens to be my wifes favorite group from the 80s So after reading the story and realizing they were still performing I searched for tickets. My wife loves to travel, I hate to travel because I fly for a living but I found tickets for us in Helsinki Finland. I figured if I was going to go see a concert in Europe I at least want to see part of Europe that we had never seen. We went to the concert last night, it was unbelievable. We ended up spending five days here although we did take a ferry trip over to Tallinn, Estonia. I wish we had left her cells or time to hang out there because the old city is beyond amazing. Once again, many thanks to the fellow freeper who posted the story!
Good for you....its my wifes fav band too
Shes 50ish
She thinks Gahan is cute...
We were going to see them here last fall at the outdoor amphitheater downtown Nashville.
One of our many kids was sick though that night
I saw them impromptu at the China club manhattan long ago
When they did Route 66 the house exploded and
David Bowie jumped up on stage.....
INXS was there too..
By the way, the tickets were her birthday/Christmas gift. Married her on Christmas Day and her birthday is on Valentine day. Whos the smaaht guy now?
Sounds like a wonderful time! I always liked Depeche Mode.
Brings back so many memories. I was stationed in Germany in the Army in ‘89 and that was go to music. Music for the Masses and Violator were always heard in the barracks.
Of course they sell more than current bands. Current bands suck and do nothing but recycle - poorly - things their grandparents’ generation did with more style and edge.
Show me ANY current band with the guts and talent to put together something like this:

... and I’d thank you profusely as I ain’t heard one in a very long time
Love ya wardaddy but never hated a band more.
Guess i’m a led zep Guns N Roses guy till i die
wife LOVES THEM!! it’s a bone of contention in the car which CD gets put in :)
Yeah, I’m not surprised they are a big touring hit this year. They aren’t exactly Slayer or Motörhead as far as talent during that era goes, but I remember their music growing up the 80s, and I didn’t really hate it like I dig other popular bands such as Wham! and miserable junk like that. Depeche Mode was always acceptable in some odd way for this metalhead along with Violent Femmes and The Smiths to some extent.
I had a major crush on a Texican girl in the Army back in 1991. She had a thing for Depeche Mode also. I can’t hear them and not think of her. Cutest girl ever, and not like most Army girls if you get my drift.
What evuh...Sweet Child of Mine...
If everyone loved the same bands, there’s only be like 3 or 4 bands instead of thousands :)
Back in the 80s, tho I like music I was not a rocker. Back then, to make dinner res at Disney World you did it at a big call center full of phones. While doing that one morning, a guy next to me was giving his IDs on a phone. That wan-looking, longhaired young man gave his name as Depeche Mode.
bkmk
I love Depeche. I saw them in concert at Red Rocks in the early 90s with one of my best buddies from grade school. It was super fun. We used to love cruising around listening to
Never Let Me Down Again...”I’m taking a ride with my best friend...”
I love this live version...sweaty, infectious energy:

Very nice on what you and your wife did.
He is. :)
People who think 80’s music sucks were either not paying attention or stuck on listening to Top 40 radio. There was an amazing variety and one heck of a lot of talent. I did admire Depeche Mode, they did some nice work and I still enjoy hearing them to this day, but it really wasn’t my scene then, in my mind they’re all wrapped up with Erasure, Alison Moyet and such, even Bronski Beat if you get my drift. Nothing wrong with any of them musically either, and they certainly had something to say, just not to me or my circle at the time.
“Freebird!”
Good thing you didn’t make the mistake this guy did.....
Red Hot Chili Peppers fan buys tickets for bagpipe band ‘The Red Hot Chili Pipers’ by mistake, goes anyway
But you know, after listening to the pipers, I like them better than the peppers....
“Guess im a led zep Guns N Roses guy till i die”
You’re not alone.
