In the early 1900s, John Jacob "Jack" Astor IV was thought to be among the richest people in the world, with a net worth of nearly $87 million when he died, equivalent to $2.21 billion in 2017. In April 1912, he was traveling back home to New York after holidaying in Egypt, accompanied by his wife. Naturally, he was the richest passenger on the RMS Titanic.

Clearly the most efficient way of transport for everyone, wealthy included, is by air. Nowadays, private-jet makers like Gulfstream, Bombardier, and Embraer are taking their offerings to new levels of luxury, technology, and performance.

At $66.5 million, the G650ER is Gulfstream's flagship product. It has a range of more than 7,500 miles, meaning it can complete flights across the Pacific Ocean.

Resale considerations aside...
I would take a $1M house over a $60M jet or ship, any day. It’s harder to crash or sink or hijack.

Interesting article and certainly great photos/artist renditions. I’d contend that most billionaires did not get that way by profligate spending and have probably learned that it is much cheaper to rent it when you need it rather than to buy it.

Good for them! If I had more wealth, the first thing I would buy would be a private jet. It’s so much nicer than the “process” of flying on commercial airlines. It’s night and day.

Wow! I guess I’m really middle class as my dream is to win the lotto and buy a 41 ft Sea Ray with one stateroom and an aft cabin. LOL!

I’d want a sizeable far off bit of acreage and be left alone for the most part.

This article is giving too much info to those in the Clinton/Obama/Holder/Lynch/ groups that will soon wish to evacuate the USA.

That bit of wisdom from Larry Hagman makes me think of his guest star appearance as a phony radio romance guy that kills his big career in Dead Air.

A favorite Streets Of San Francisco episode.

I want to be your neighbor. I can see your lights, they look like stars.
Do me a favor, don’t shoot toward the house.

I’m sure you would be a great neighbor.

You’d probably forget I was around.
