Congress - The months before midterm elections will be legislative "dead zone"

Don’t expect much legislating to get done on Capitol Hill before the Nov 2018 midterm elections. Today's USA Today newspaper reminds readers that historically, congressional leadership in both dominant parties don't push vulnerable members -- those facing difficult re-election prospects -- to cast difficult votes. USA Today writers Eliza Collins et al. describe the coming months as likely to be a legislative "dead zone": "With a few exceptions, the performance of Congress over the past five midterm election lead-ups — from the Easter break to Election Day in 2014, 2010, 2006, 2002 and 1998 — backs up the belief that nothing much is accomplished during that dead-zone period.

"In 2014, 84 laws were enacted from after Easter until before the election. The only one of note was the Veterans Choice Act, a bipartisan bill that allowed veterans to get treated at non-Veterans Health Administration facilities if they had been subjected to long waits.

"In 2010, the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform legislation passed during this period, but Democrats controlled the Senate and House by wide margins, and it passed on mostly party lines.

"In 2006, nothing of lasting impact passed during the period, nor did anything during a similar period of 1998.

"Post-Easter to Election Day in 2002 was unique: It came in the shadow of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and the tumultuous 2000 presidential race. Legislation to reform the voting process and a resolution in support of the use of force in Iraq passed during that period." ...

We have so many challenges facing our nation. I haven't endorsed a single incumbent in Congress for reelection for the past ten years. How about you?

America HATES the US Congress.
Predators all ... starting with the lying, EXEMPT
GOP and ending with the treasonous DNC.

There is one solution:

Remove them.
Indict them.

To use the latest term - me too. I vote for conservative challengers in republican primaries.

EVERY Congress does this. This is not new. What IS new is all the sudden angst about it.

On Judges alone GOP control of Congress has done incredible good for Conservatives.

These sort of habitual temper tantrums by “Movement Conservatives” every election year might make them feel all noble and principled, it is actually poltical idiocy.

Not ever poltical battle results in 100% what YOU want. The goal is to move the poltical ball down the field toward their end zone rather the sit in the stand watching the other side move it toward our end zone.

Congress, where legislation goes to die.

Congress, the opposite of progress.

It’s a cover for the fact that the Congress under the so-called leadership of Ryan and McConnell haven’t been doing jack for well over a year and are simply stating that they won’t be doing jack for the next 6 months either.

As opposed to that beehive of activity Congress has been for the past 15 months?

This will be great if we don't have to endure sChmukie Schumer droning on, or SanFran Nan spouting some lunacy. Congress is worthless anyway.

Hah - one of my daily routines is to search GoDaddy's list of soon-to-expire domain names for keywords I'm interested in -- a few days ago, I saw that www.theoppositeofprogressiscongress.info was soon to be available (I was searching for domain names including "sc"). I registered five that day, but not that one (although if I had been choosing based on how big a chuckle the domain prompted, it would have ranked higher than four I picked).

Trump should hit Congress to repeal the change to the law that allows media to direct propaganda to the American public. McConnell should know that their job depends on them successfully passing the repeal, and start scheduling weekends until the job is done. If it isn’t done by Labor Day, fire them.
