While typical entry-level jobs today pay around $40,000 to $50,000 annually, if you choose the right career route, you could be starting your career off making around six figures right off the bat. Of course, that depends on your job. Unsurprisingly, if you’re in technology, you’re in luck.
A recent study by Comparably that analyzed nearly 20,000 anonymous employee salary records from companies big and small, public and private, uncovered the top six entry-level jobs that have average annual salaries of $90,000 or more.
One of the highest paying jobs for people just stepping into the workforce is that of a data scientist. So if you know how to use computing technology to discover trends and develop tech-savvy techniques to solve problems, here’s a career path for you, and the good news? The average entry-level employees makes a whopping $110,850 every year. Following close behind, entry-level product managers make nearly $105,000 a year, and developers come in third for some of the entry-level highest salary at $96,000 annually.
Unfortunately, salary also varies depending on gender, with women usually earning less. But some good news for women who take on the roles of data scientists or developers: they make higher annual salaries than men -- overall, around $3,000 more annually. However, men who are mobile developers typically make substantially more than women, with an average $100,000 for men and $80,000 for women....

One of the highest is “data scientist”? First thing that comes to mind is glowbull warming.
Are these people paid big bucks to juggle figures to fool the peons?
It also sounds like a very rare job, I doubt if one could just get into it and find employment down the street.

Facebook and Google are examples of where Data scientists work, but it’s more than that. A lot of companies (and the government) are sucking up huge amounts of information (Big Data) and often throwing it into “the cloud” or a “data lake”. They think the information is useful, but they don’t necessarily know what they can use it for. Data scientists can take raw, fairly disorganized data and uncover actual “information” which can be useful to a business.
Just get an engineering degree from any quality university and you will do fine, man or woman. Note that if you are in one of the minority groups, you barely even have to interview. Most times they will hire you on the spot. White males generally have to go through a 8 hour interview conducted by a panel.
This is what I do and it is true. I just don’t get this much

I have a friend who recruits workers for companies all over the country. The current high demand is for skilled labor, especially for machinists and welders. Maybe going to college isn’t the best career path for yongsters.
“Data Scientist” is a Statistician under 40.
I just sat through some text analysis presentations today on how to do topic decomposition on large bodies of text at scale. How to build and train neural networks to do gait analysis to identify people from exercise usage, etc. Fun stuff.
Basically, it’s all just a bunch of statistics.
We had a plumber at our house last week (lots of work). He has an engineering degree but makes more money as a plumber.
Being a woman has helped me, on the experienced side.
I had 15 years.
Then I quit to have my son.
Starting some 5 years later, lots of damn on-line applications, some interviews including my old company, of varying intensity, and ZERO job offers.
Yeah, that worked real well, being a woman. Got me the interviews maybe, but not the job.
HTF does an entry level type know a thing about what product he is supposed to be managing, absent a decent incubation to become familiar with it, the designers, and how it works. Not to mention how the buyers are accepting it, or not.
I suppose in the millennial market place, perception and peer pressure is far more important than performance.

I am a mechanical.
And I guarantee, the work does not change that much. Neither do I forget much about the projects I did.
I know it was risky. My biggest mistake was not snapping up some seminars and so on to seem “up to date” while raising my son. Then medical issues interfered, wasting more time.
But no, being an EXPERIENCED woman does not help if you have that gap. And they don’t want you to start at the bottom.. that would be “debasing yourself” and they wonder why you would offer to take a job beneath your experience?
A few years back I was at a Sears store around Christmas. Standing in line I heard 2 parents talking to another person about their 18 year son who was hired as a gaming programmer at a starting salary of $100,000
I would put IT project managers as coequal placeholders at the bottom of my list.
I’m not sure what “entry level” means here, but ‘data scientist’ is not an entry level job.
