US Facing A True Threat – Escalation In Aircraft Incidents – China Targets U.S. Pilots With Lasers.

I will be discussing the alarming escalation of aircraft incidents currently in the news.

While the United States copes with many threats in the world today, what I am about to report is by far a chilling development. China has actually fired military-grade lasers targeting U.S. aircraft flying near a U.S. military base in Africa.

Sarah Sanders told reporters the following: “There will be near-term and long-term consequences.”

This is not the only instance in which Beijing has targeted U.S. aircraft flying over the east African country of Djibouti.

According to U.S. defense officials, the lasers were fired from the Chinese military base in Doraleh on at least three occasions, resulting in eye injuries for two American pilots.

Back in the eighties, Honeywell had an electronic enhanced lens for satellites that detected a laser and protected the satellite’s sensors from it. I would think that something as simple as polarized film on a pilot’s canopy and additional polarization oh his goggles would do the trick.

The Chinese are foolish to start playing around with a potential weapon long before it would be used in combat. That gives more time to develop and deploy counter measures. One counter measure would be to fire a laser source seeking missile.

U.S. Military binoculars have laser shields built in.

I have no idea how effective they are.

It would be easy to thwart a laser shield if you knew which wavelengths it blocked, and which it didn’t.

I have owned two military binoculars which had a laser shield. One was a Steiner and the other was Kama Tech tho the binocular was a Fuji.

It actually had the name of an optical filter maker “Corion” on the binocular.

This is basically a wild guess but I wonder if they were intended to block a laser rangefinder which might accidentally harm your eyes.

Somehow, I don’t think it would be difficult to set up a Wild Weasel platform with missiles that home on laser emitters the way ARM misses home on radar...

Then, the hostile pinging with lasers might stop.

I’d ignore it.

Or, you could check it out. It took me about 30 seconds and I found credible accounts from among: The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Telegraph, the Voice of America, CNN, and many others. Looks like legit.
