MIFFLINBURG, Pa. -- Employees at Ritz-Craft Custom Homes in Mifflinburg finished up a modular home on Eighth Street. When it comes to buying a house, many people are turning to modular homes. So many, the Ritz-Craft is hiring 150 new employees to help produce them.

"Framing, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, drywall, we'll also need leadership positions," Myles Biggs said.

Biggs is general manager of Ritz-Craft Custom Homes in Mifflinburg. Biggs tells Newswatch 16 the housing market is coming back and his company has seen a large influx of orders.

Ritz-Craft Custom Homes is reopening a section of one of its plants in Mifflinburg and needs employees to staff it. In addition to construction trades, they need office positions.

"We have a real need for engineering right now, but also accounting, sales, marketing, purchasing. We'll take it all," Biggs said....

Probably selling to a lot of folks fleeing NYS. But given what’s going on in Harrisburg, I don’t know how long that will last...

Gee, globalists strangle the US labor market wages for decades then complain when they can instantly find enough people to fill positions. Labor “shortage” fake news stories are just globalist propaganda to justify importing more indentured servants.

I was talking to the GM of another modular home manufacturer in that general area a few months ago.

He told me that years ago, every May, there would be a few hundred guys at their door looking for jobs as they graduated high school. Some turned into lifelong careers.

He said nowadays, they’ll be lucky to get ten candidates.

It’s good, honest work. Modular construction is easy compared to stick building in the field. It’s indoors, never get rained or snowed on, don’t have to put all the tools away at the end of the day, don’t have to drive to the job site far from home.

Sadly, our indoctrination centers have conned everyone that all kids are college bound. Not true.

One of mine decided early on he wanted to work in a trade. He’s 18 and just got his Class A CDL to be a commercial truck driver. Good for him. Two weeks later, his brother got his college diploma as an Astronautical Engineer. Good for him too.

And I’d be willing to bet of the candidates who do show up, many won’t pass a drug test. And if PA legalizes weed, that will get even worse.

You’re probably right.

Those big companies just need to understand man, like I need my weed, y’know. It’s not gonna like affect my job man.

It’s not like using power tools and smoking is gonna hurt nothin dude.

As I have found out over the past few years supervising an IT Help Desk is not only the drug issue but the self absorbed “it’s all about me” attitude.

It’s like dealing with unruly 5 year olds. I don’t wanna...

Getting them to show up for their posted shift is like parting the Red Sea. Expecting them to show up on time...Forget it. NOT Happening!

Our best Staff are Retirees in their late 50s-early 60s who we hire as P/T staff. They show up when they are supposed to, are detail oriented, care about the job they do and have respect for others.

PA was on our short list of states to escape to after we bug from NYS. But not any more. And I love PA. Sigh.

I’ve seen the same thing.

I have four kids. All are adults and work. They are known for their good work ethic.

Our youngest works at Chick-Fil-A. He told them that he’s going to be leaving the company in a month of so to volunteer at a summer camp, then he’s going to become a trucker. (He just got his Class A CDL)

They asked if they could keep him on the payroll for special events. (He’s the cow mascot sometimes)

I moved to Maryland from Michigan about 8 years ago. The PA border is within commuting distance sort of from my office.

We looked into it, but Home School Legal Defense counseled us to not move their if we had the choice. Homeschool regulations were pretty onerous.

Yesterday, my son, a sophomore at Penn State, filled out an app for a summer warehouse job, went across the street for the drug test. He started the position today.

$14/hour, 40 hours per week, and as much OT as he wants.

They have trouble finding people who can pass the drug test and show up for work.

My daughter did that with the State D.N.R when she was in College
She was the only one that could back up a Duel axle trailer. ;) Her dad made her learn when she started driving...I reminded her of the bitching she did at the time LOL

At any rate, she worked for the state for the 4 summers in College made decent money too
